I bought a powerful vibrator today.
I refer of course to my Rigid Tools (oh the irony....) Job Max 3 Amp Multi-Tool. Needed to get a clean hole through a plaster ceiling. Really, really did not want to have to pull the ceiling and drywall it. Bought the corded model.
It did an amazing job. Grout removal blade through the plaster, then a Bosch 'cuts freaking anything' blade through the lath. Really clean cuts. I zip tied my shop vac hose so that the nozzle was about 8 inches away. Zero dust in the room. ![]() ![]()

Ooooh, I like it. I've been puzzling over an easy tool to use for cutting vents in my soffit, that looks like just the trick.

Matt, there is a cheaper harbor freight version that works very well. I've been using one to scrap undercoat.

Thanks Sid, I'll keep it in mind. HF is my go-to place for occasional use tools.

I spent about 6hrs under the car scraping undercoat with it running almost nonstop, didn't seem to phase it.
Dad has used it to cut trim and a few other things, works very well. Can be had on sale for around $30 Oscillating Tools - Oscillating Multifunction Power Tools at Harbor Freight |

Wow, as an owner of a house with plaster walls, I'm blown away. What a frickin' mess any other way. Thanks for posting that.

You must have a powerful multipurpose saw and vac. Once I was grinding some concrete and ask my wife to hold the vac's hose. it's still messy everywhere in the whole house.

I own the Fein version. Great tool that I bought to renovate a bath room.

I have the HF version. I bought it on a whim in 2011. I made a bunch of money with it doing various little jobs for people including grout removal and chasing cracks in plaster prior to patching.
I also spliced in some oak hardwood flooring. Made a tidy sum on that job. I've done that many times over a career and this was the easiest method yet. Great tool. It sits on top of plenty of nearly useless ones I have. |
