Toilet tank?

There are 5 other toilet tanks we didn't check, but only two other could have the Rolex: we checked the one in the master suite & in the guest house.

Sorry for the brief tangent. I always carry a pocket knife. When I fly for work I put the knife in one of my shoes. Shoe compartment of my bag is separate and handy. Just drop knife in, zip and lock. Arrived at destination, grabbed my bag, absently opened it and reached in for the knife. I found it blade open, now I'm bleeding in the airport. Damn, TSA had found it when scanning opened it and couldn't figure out how a liner lock works, so they stuck it back in the shoe opened blade pointing out. Yes, it was too large to open by itself.

Back on topic. Any furniture or shelving with crown type moulding around the top. You said lots of books. We have several pieces of standalone and some built in. I'm the only one in the family tall enought to reach it. Great place to hide a spoon or watch. No one is tall enough to look over the ledge. You said your uncle was tall. Just reach up and drop it over the edge?

any of the closets. above the doors there's usually a little shelf from the framing. i used to hide my stuff there when i was little.

id almost guarantee there is a hidden safe of some sort in the house, that he didn't tell anyone about........
look behind all the wall art, under rugs, etc.....
it'll be in HIS area of the house...also flip through books, a hollowed out book is good too........

Last year hiding places was discussed somewhere, maybe here. One that I'd never heard of was to take a circular saw and cut a kerf in the top of a door. Drop the money in the slot, get it out with a pin. I didn't like the idea because the money was high up in a flammable object.

That might be why books are a good idea. Books stacked on a shelf are well insulated.

Use a mirror and a light to see up inside the bathroom sink cabinet although that's a poor spot if you forget and then have to call a plumber for a sink problem.

Sorry for your loss. I'd pull all of the drawers out of each piece of furniture (chest, nightstands, end tables, etc.) and check the interior (top, bottom, and sides) along with the back of the drawers. Also look under the furniture. I've seen chest with 3" of dead-space between the bottom drawer and the floor that would provide ample room hiding items. Another long-shot is checking for floor.....from the crawlspace/basement, you can inspect the floor to see if it has been cut to install a floor safe or a box that cannot be seen from the topside.

All the flooring is either cork, stone, or carpet: I don't think he'd go to that extreme, but do need to check behind pictures & such.

I've also gone through this three file cabinets & searched in all the envelopes: nuttin. :/

My MIL hid the keys to her desk under a corner of the carpet that easily pulled up. Had us stumped for a while.

-for a watch, under the carpet is more difficult.

-we've searched for false containers to no avail (so far). :/
