Ideas needed: uncle hid Rolex before he died
 

What an awful week: my beloved Italian Uncle died last Thursday from a very aggressive, returning Lymphoma: unforseen by all. Very sad.:(

As well, he's always hidden his Rolex before the maid would come, but this time it cannot be found where he said he hid it: which was in the Tornado shelter (6 sides poured-in-place concrete), in the safe anchored to the floor.

Before he passed he wanted his son to have it, though his son came & left w/o any sign of the Rolex. Movers will start showing up soon & the family wants to find the Rolex before a mover does: eek

Where do you think we should look?? Already went through the vault, safe, his closet, & office: these are the common places he would hide the watch; and no other place as he was very respectful of his wife. Though, as he became more sick he was "not himself", so where else could we look in this 8000sf countray farm house?? :confused:

Behind ductwork registers.

Car, garage, high surface/shelf?

How mobile was he?

Try to put yourself into his state of mind and physical ability.

Look in the freezer.

Registers: good idea!

He could not climb stairs well, so that kinda rules out the Safe in the basement, or stashing in the attic.

I checked his car & all shelves: he was 6' at his last measurement, so looked on all shelves.

The freezer in his bedroom bar is sealed shut from lack of use & not being defrosted, so it's not there, already checked his fridge & looked for false cans where it could have been stashed.

No window AC units, Maid has been with them for 20 years: no reason to suspect, but who knows.

Already been through the socks/underwear shelves.

My MIL hides things.

She hid my FIL's Rolex so well that for 15 years she could not find it.

She eventually did, when they were packing the house to move to Florida.

does he have a library or book collection? Check for hollow books.......

Looked in the books already: found some hollow books under "Tom Green", but they were empty. He's an attorney & had a lot of books: need to go through them again. :/

Anything that starts with a W or an R by name or title. Like water heater or Ruffles.

At least that will keep you running around. You may accidentally find it but you won't if you're not looking. Remember, in a baggie, he could have dropped it in the cereal or flour.

Borrow a metal detector. Scan the entire foodstuffs and closets full of anything non metallic. Scan the mattress, everything.



Edit: I just looked at the pics on the MLS. You're right, lots and lots of places.


But, it's in the piano.

I hide my Rolex under the stove, seriously, I pull out the lower drawer and behind it is a lot of room. I put it and other stuff in zip-loc bags and hide it there.

PS- look in coat pockets, suit pockets, any pockets of clothes hanging in closets, etc.

Did you check in the piano?

I'd delete this if I were you.

20 odd years ago you could buy false power points that slid out like a draw.
They were popular with retired, older people because they were a cheap and effective way of hiding valuables.
