Sid,

There have been multiple cases where someone has been hit with a 9mm and kept coming. Not one that I know of with a .45 auto.

A weapon is a weapon, just because its being used at a range does not mean that someday it may have to be used to defend yourself.

Bill, I'm confused - you mention the respective cyclic rates of the Uzi in 9mm vs. .45 ACP. Are you looking at selective fire versions of these?

svandamme 04-27-2012 12:26 PM

i don't think the uzi is about one shot one kill, but about peppering the target with a nice group.
So .45 or 9m , or .22LR for that matter.

If you get 1/3rd of the mag on target, i think you'll be fine and the perp will be ... well.. he will stop being.

Really I don't know a thing about them Jeff. I went to Wiki and they had some specs. I would say on full auto but that doesn't mean a thing when you have a 25 round magazine. ha, I suspect the 9mm magazine would empty .5 of a second faster.

Stijn, I think you are right, they are not know for their accuracy, just lead in the air :)

The reason I ask, Bill, is that here in the states, as lenient as our gun laws are, we need a special license to own anything that can fire full auto.

For cheap, entertaining shooting fun (as opposed to guarding the ol' homestead), the 9mm will be a lot cheaper to feed. That would seal it for me.

I assure you that 32 rounds of 9mm fom an Uzi will make you stop just.....every time!

Really... you are not actually contemplating blasting another person with this weapon.... why do you need our opinion?? cause you can?

Bill Douglas 04-27-2012 05:12 PM

More of a collectable, or not so much a collectable but a fun thing to just have. But I thought maybe one is more desirable to own than the other.

I've shot both as well as a Thompson. Both .45s tend to climb into the air and are difficult to keep on target. Best to limit to three shot bursts as opposed to rock and roll.

I've got that special license. It's hard to get around this place, but now I can buy full autos, grenade launchers, things like that. I haven't bought any yet though, but they are fun things to collect I guess.

Thanks Joe.

Those guns laws in NZ are pretty decent then. very few (civilized)places where you can get full auto as a civilian.

Bill Douglas 04-28-2012 12:25 AM

I was rather suprised what gets sold at this particular gun auction to individuals who have a genuine interest in this stuff.

Joke - Enough military equipment to overthrow a small government.

I hope you are having a good time with that DW :)
