??? 04 745 Seat Belt and Airbag Warning Lights

Gents,

Dad's 745 is light up like a xmas tree. Seat belt and airbag idiot lights won't go off. I figure a ground issue. Ideas?

He has no scanner but he's looking to buy one.

Make sure the connectors under the seats are still good. Most common issues are dust and objects getting to them. The airbag light may not go away if this is the issue but the seatbelt light should. You may have to have the airbag light reset.

TX! Reminds me of similar issues on my SC where the solution was the transmission ground strap.

I'm not sure about the 745 specifically, but the seatbelt sensor in the latch is a common failure point and will trigger an SRS light. Your best bet is to have someone pull codes, which probably can't be done via OBD port. On most cars you'll need to pull codes from the SRS computer, which requires the BMW diagnostic computer. You also can't reset an SRS light via OBD computer.

A normal scanner won't interface with the SRS system, although some will show a code.

Matt's right, the culprit is likely a faulty seatbelt sensor, or sometimes a passenger seat occupancy sensor.

Call your BMW dealer, it might still be under warranty

Had an issue with the Boxster. The belt receptor looks straight up and is perfect depository for junk. Flushed it out with some distilled water w/ alcohol, contact cleaner, light vinegar solution, all the basic Early_S_Man recommendations and no problems since.

I'd do something like that before the dealer just to save the time.

you'll need an Autologic or BMW GT1/2 scan tool to completely view body codes/data. You MAY see SRS codes via OBD II based scan tool.................the early 60 series platforms had lots of issues with sub-ware requiring many updated "paks"

Its probably the pass. side occupancy sensor, could also be an issue in one of the satellite modules. You said it was lit up like a christmas tree, what other lights are on. Sounds like you need me & my ISTA & Icom's down there. You can also pull up some of the warnings thru the IDrive. Low voltage can also cause many problems. Call me & I will tell you how to unlock the cluster & you will have access to a large amount of data.Make sure & have the last 7 #'s of the VIN handy when you call.

Howie,

I might have to have Quique follow your instructions. I'm down in a petroleum producing country in South America.....

The Dr says that album is super!

It was the airbag sensor on the passenger seat. Thanks!
