DVR rant
It's died again. Each time I have to replace the POS Verizon sends me (not new, refurbished) it lasts a year or so. I think the answer is not to buy my own unit and still pay an extra 5 bucks a month for the privilege?, I should be able to record to a cloud.
What say you? And other than having to get another computer hooked to the TV to access this cloud and play my programs, what? |

Few hundred bucks and some free software and you could build your own...

Pretty silly. I pay 60 bucks a year extra to have the DVR. Otherwise it's just a box with channels. No record, no TV for me. Monthly bill is 178 for TV, phone and Internet on fiber optic. For that kind of money I expect the best.

Is it worth it? I went to cancel service on my non-lifetime service'd Tivo a while back and they offered me a new HD model for free. I did have to commit to 2 years and pay the $20/mo service fee.
It's so much better than the DVR that TWC gives out costs a little more and I can control it via my iPhone or iPad easily. I have read about setting up my own HTPC (home theater PC) and even considered a Mac Mini for it (which I have) but the Tivo is the 'easy' button. It's just a fantastic DVR - they have it right and I have been an extremely satisfied customer for nearly 10 years now. I have had a couple of failures but they are servicable. (TiVo Superstore | Upgraded TiVo DVRs, Remotes, Parts, Repairs sells parts). On one I had to replace the hard drive and at that time I upgraded it. Then a few years later the power supply died - I replaced that for like $20 and it was good to go for another few years. I disliked the other DVRs from the cable and satellite company so much I stuck with the SD Tivo and just did without HD for a while. I heart Tivo.

Been on live chat with Verizon for the last half hour. Worthless POS. I told them Direct TV was coming live tomorrow morning (I have the dish left over from 7-8 years ago intact). Whoa, they want me to stay online for a "supervisor." This should be good.

They shut down the Live Chat in the middle of the session. Great company to do business with.
![]() Avoid Verizon at all cost. I have had nothing but trouble with Verizon since I signed up! The only reason I went with Verizon is because after 10 years with DTV, they would not send me a DVR for free even though I would pay the extra monthly. We had been with them so long they didn't even want their STB's back. Oh, and their Internet is way too high$. A few years ago we had another phone service provider. I think it was called MCA. Anyway, they had to pay Verizon for use of the lines in the city. Well, guess what? Verizon sabotaged every thing the could to make that just about impossible. I think we waited 3 months for service. Verizon at the time could hook us up in a week. Tell me this isn't illegal. Time to figure out something that is not a total fooking rip off. Again (web crawlers get this big time): VERIZON SUCKS BALLS |
