Whats going on with the forums?

My direct link to OT was dead, come through the "Tech Forums" button on the main site and get a message that PP is under attack?

Should we be worried?

madmmac 05-03-2012 02:25 PM

Rumor has it that a Mustang forum is trying to attack but is having difficulties keeping up with Wayne.

crustychief 05-03-2012 02:25 PM

Same here.

edit... same as Sid's post

They may have nicer mullets, but I think we've got more spoons. Time to strap on a helmet and start shooting boys!

genrex 05-03-2012 02:41 PM

There is currently a long thread on the 914 forum, with the last few pages specifically talking about this.

It is believed by "Sir Andy" (the owner/ admin of the 914 World website) that the attackers first attacked that website as an act of vengeance, and after shutting down that website, the attackers then used google to find out where the 914 people migrated to (the 914 forum here)... and the attackers are now attacking that forum.

It's my understanding that the 914 forum is their target.

porsche4life 05-03-2012 02:44 PM

Wow... Thats some serious 914 hate....

jfkruse 05-03-2012 02:46 PM

Wayne,
I'm hoping you are working on a revision to 101 projects for your 911 making it perhaps 101 new projects. I'm running out of projects having followed your book for the past 4 years.

PS: I love your book. Very helpful in innumerable weys.

Thanks,

Jack

genrex 05-03-2012 02:49 PM

I was thinking maybe Wayne can isolate the 914 forum as a test, to see if that solves the problem for the rest of the forums.

Rick Lee 05-03-2012 02:51 PM

The BMW bike parts classifieds have been getting crushed with Chinese spammers too.

Tervuren 05-03-2012 03:29 PM

GH85Carrera 05-03-2012 04:08 PM

Good luck Wayne. We are all in withdrawl.

trekkor 05-03-2012 04:13 PM

914's are dirty...

KT

trekkor 05-03-2012 04:52 PM

It won't. A DoS or DDoS attack just basically sends a TON of crap traffic to a particular IP, the server is so busy handling that that it can't handle the legitimate stuff...

dipso 05-03-2012 04:55 PM

What is a 914? Is that even a Porsche?

onewhippedpuppy 05-03-2012 04:59 PM

I know that not everyone likes the 914, but damn....;)

Good luck with the battle Wayne and thanks for all you do! SmileWavy

trekkor 05-03-2012 05:10 PM

You can't tell if they are coming or going...

KT

turboteener 05-03-2012 05:27 PM

How dare those VWs come in here and stink the place up. Weren't they banned from the Porsche Club way back in the day anyways. They aren't real Porsches.

red-beard 05-03-2012 05:29 PM

Is this a 914 World vs. 914 Club issue?

72doug2,2S 05-03-2012 05:35 PM

Keep up the good fight Wayne. We're still here.

red-beard 05-03-2012 05:41 PM

We're "not" here. We're there. Or really we're here, but the DOS is going there, where we were, but aren't now...

genrex 05-03-2012 05:43 PM

James, some spammers tried to register on World, and the admins kicked them off. Standard procedure. But these spammers retaliated by launching a DOS attack, using thousands of proxy bot computers from many countries.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was started by a group of kids who have no idea how far their attack is spreading.

Mark Henry 05-03-2012 05:44 PM

An innocent question was asked about if a escrow company was legit, Turns out it's a total Chinese scam site and they will launch a full scale DoS attack on any site that puts this info up.

I would name the scumbags, but then this site would be under attack again.

This isn't "kids", this is well organised scammers.

turboteener 05-03-2012 05:50 PM

Mark PM me the Name and I will put it up on Ebay and Craigslist, etc. I don't use my EBAY login any more anyways.

genrex 05-03-2012 05:51 PM

Mark is correct, the spammers will target any website that questions their scam.

It's not a bunch of kids. Sorry for the mis-info.

The escrow company claims it has 500 employees and two locations in Boston and LA. Looking at the locations on Google Earth they both have no mention of the company by signage nor do the locations look like they could house 250 employees each. :)

Gawernator 05-03-2012 06:02 PM

How lame.

stealthn 05-03-2012 06:06 PM

Hmmm why DDOS Pelican?

It may be obfuscation, check that people are not coming in the backdoor and trying to get at your payment processing systems.

Hopefully no CC's are stored anywhere, or at a minimum are encrypted, along with the user information (mine)

Good luck

Bob James

Wow! . .and they get away with it?

Where's our govt?

Surprised no one has hired some Russian thugs to go after the pos scammers.

oh well, at least Gibson Guitar is being prosecutes for using the wrong wood.

Good work Wayne.

Yes, that's correct. The Pelican parts forums are currently under what is known as a DOS (Denial of Service Attack). Someone has turned several thousand hacked machines to our site here in an attempt to bring it down. I'm working on several solutions to combat this issue.

-Wayne

Rumor has it, this started with 914 world. There was a spam ad and they slammed the guy, so the 12 year old heshe got all bunched up in the undies.
He went after world, and then NARP, and evidently something mentioned the thread here in the 914 forum so the little enema-nozzle with the itty bitty dinky came after this site too.

And get this, it's against the law to shoot people like that. I know, go figure.

porsche4life 05-03-2012 06:24 PM

Umm... Pretty hard for the US gov't to regulate what spammers from another country do...

porsche4life 05-03-2012 06:25 PM

Weird.... I find myself agreeing with Sammy....
