Mr Palmer said the rebuild was a tribute to the spirit of the men and women who constructed the original Titanic.

"These people produced work that is still marvelled at more than 100 years later and we want that spirit to go on for another 100 years," he said.

Then he should be building the thing in Belfast. They could use the work.

Proves the saying... Money can't buy good taste.

So what's the point? To cash in on a tragic event. And he's an Aussie!

But this time, the hull will have a secret, high-tech, weapon against random icebergs - an array of caster wheels.

ducking.

I read somewhere it was to be welded and use Diesel power. I imagine riveting is a lost art nowadays.

What are the ship building regulations today in the Western Countries?

I know that the Jones act has serious implications here! We cannot ship LNG from the mainland to Puerto Rico unless a US Flagged, US built ship does it...

Well it will certainly have a higher lead content than if anyone else made it. They sure love sprinkling on a little lead whenever possible.

Perhaps the Titanic II could dock in Pearl Harbor and throw a big party on the USS Arizona Monument.

I have to admit, the Titanic lost a lot of it's grandeur when I saw the Queen Mary... then found out the Queen Mary is actually bigger.

When I was in gradeschool, it was always made out that the Titanic was some ridiculously huge ship...

A modern cruise ship is bigger.
