RIP Duck

Per Steve Cropper's fb post, Duck Dunn passed away tonight in his sleep after doing two shows at the Blue Note in Tokyo. One of the truly great and influential bass players ever. God speed Duck.

Damn, RIP.

Think I'll watch The Blues Brothers again tomorrow in his honor.

Man, 'ole Duck's playing on stuff I've had in my collection for years and I didn't even know he was on some of 'em. I've got at least 40+ (quit counting)...of those recordings.

played a gig, fell asleep with his ears still ringing, never woke up. Oh we all should be so fortunate in death. Rest in peace.

And we all move up one space.

Here's a picture of him from a few weeks back, playing in a horse barn at a local "get together"...Such a humble fellow yet such a giant.

Yes, that's Steve Cropper and Eddie Floyd. Cropper is big buddies with James Burton and is in town quite often.

If I could take him, Joe Osborne, Carol Kaye and Jerry Jermott, I could write the soundtrack of my early bass life.

The cool thing about Duck was when you talked with him, he was just "one of the guys"....I think the coolest thing I ever heard him say was " I'm not a great bass player, I just played on a few great songs"...
