this is my official title on my card.

Global Technical Support Supervisor

I giggle every time I read that. I don't do any of that! Except the 'global' part.

I think the use of engineer is even more over used than technician...

Lord, Duke, Viscount, Count, Earl, Marquesses, or Baron. Yep, those are all interchangeable for 'Principal Consultant'.

If you take scientific principles & put them to practical use you are an engineer. Maybe not a formally educated engineer but one none the less.
I will say it is an over used term though.

There are engineers and Engineers.

When people ask, I tell them I'm an "Oral Health Care Facilitator".
Then wait to see how long it takes them to ask what that is! :D

Back in high school, I worked as a "Hobart Engineer" or dishwasher in a restaurant...

I am applying for my water cooled vegetation combustion apparatus technician license next week.

That really hasn't changed here (ORNL - home of the Manhattan Project). Scientists rule and engineers are looked down upon as second-class citizens. Of course, over 25% of the working force here have PhDs...

One reason I didn't pursue a EE degree...I liked to see females on my college campus :)

I think it all started with "sandwich artists" at subway didn't it?

that is because they still remember back to their undergraduate days, when they had to sweat in physics, and the engineering majors got away with the easy textbook in their "cookbook" physics classes...

my official title at work is "Technical specialist"
it does not discribe my job duties: head of lighting department in a corperate conference center-
