I'm sure this is being carefully investigated, but that looks like ALOT more than a 25 mph head on into a motorcycle...

Really tragic for the motorcyclist. Talk about minding your own business but being in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time.

I don't think a ferrari can "loose control" at 25mph.

"Though the investigation is ongoing, it appears the Ferraris were travelling faster than the 25 mph speed limit, Ruocco said."

No chit! Looking at the photo of the red car, it was going a LOT faster than 25.

What kind of idiot puts two cars like this in the hands of kids and expects them to return in one piece?

This is the reason I'm happy I lived through my "motorcycle years"...Too many good friends, good riders who died no fault of their own....

Two employees in Ferraris they don't own (one a teenager) driving together on a parking lot access road.......they couldn't possibly be........racing?!

It's pretty easy to see the setup, two moron employees racing through a parking lot to avoid the cops. Sadly predictable, RIP to the innocent dude just trying to get to work.

I was driving a F355 in vegas a couple years ago and while making a right hand turn from a stop I spun it 360 degrees. It scared the $hit out of me! I wasn't getting on the gas or driving aggressive at all. Thankfully I didn't hit anything or anyone and was able to go on my way without incident.

That said, those guys were likely racing or driving like idiots and lost it at the exact wrong time.

Back in the late 80's while selling Porsche's I can tell you first hand how scary it is being a passenger with all the wannabe driver / owners. The worst was with an @sshole surgeon who wanted a discount 930. He takes the car up to 90 mph in a local neighborhood with a speed limit of 20! I forgot my exact words blurted out to him but it was close to I'm not going to die but he might if he doesn't stop.... and then I might complete the mission. He was actually pissed at me and I told him he could walk back. He slowed and went directly back to the store. Another chapter for the rest of the story but man, no matter if those were young drivers or whoever... manslaughter should be charged. Look at the carnage! NOT at 25 mph.

I used to own and ride motorcycles in northern NJ, but gave it up a few yers back. There's just for too many a-hole drivers in that area who don't have any situational awareness, don't signal when changing lanes, etc. Typically, drivers of higher-end performance cars and expensive SUV's tend to be the worst.

Put that together with young drivers, and unfortunate tragic events like this one do occur. My heart goes out to his family.

This from the same area that gave us people with high-end sports cars thinking they are something special when driving their cars "up to 100 mph" on a largely straight road with police escort.

Manslaughter is not enough here. When they hit the gas, they crossed the line into 2nd degree murder.

But, how to punish a 19 YO for his stupidity? Jail is not the right place after a couple of years. No, something way more severe is appropriate.

I'll think of something.

Agreed. From the photos, the damage appears heavier than a 25 mph shunt.

But, people have wrecked high-performance cars dropping the clutch away from a stop.

No doubt on the clutch thing, but nobody gets killed. Just the car. And that's punishable at the wallet.

If we (me) are going to pick nits, there was no mention of "loose control" in the article. "Lost," yes. But the young drivers were certainly in loose control.

So much for staying in your own lane in the event of an accident.

Oh yes they can. I did a 360 in a friends Testarossa a week ago. In first gear. Just a little bit of wet on the road. Incredibly unforgiving....Fortunately the road was empty.

What a tragedy for the motorcyclist. I hate it when people let kids loose in cars like this.

Or, to release the PWracken, an old late 80's 5.0 Mustang convertible a friend of mine was storing in one of my barns. Lot's of mods.

I goosed it coming out of of my gravel driveway and got to see where I'd been and, again, where I was going.

Driver 101 track time training before any license is granted would help. Perhaps make it law at the new driver or parents expense only. Every kid is eventually going to go ape on ANY car so you might as well try to get some of the aggression out and learn at the same time.

However, whatever, when you spin-out without doing on purpose, you're out of control. Controlled spins and knowing why and how is invaluable for emergency situations.

It's no wonder you see people trying to drive like Travis Pastrana. You've got lots of racing on TV, commercials with just about anything you can think of drifting (including SUVs) and more TV shows like Top Gear with power slides galore.

The truth is, most cars handle like crap and don't do at all what is expected once you cross the threshold. But, they can make you feel like Mario right up to that point. Add in PSM and the problem is worse, not better. PSM can't save Darwin.
