What are you cooking for Father's Day?

My tradition? Get a picnic cut pork shoulder going on the smoker at about 6am - lots (LOTS) of cheap beer, 3 cigars, just a few very good friends.

What are you doing?

It's Fathers Day. You shouldn't be cooking jack. You should be getting breakfast in bed, (after the bj), then the cigars etc. It is interesting that on Mothers Day you do exactly what the Ms. wants/needs and on Fathers Day we do the same ******* thing, funny as hell
Have fun.

I'll be on location with The Lone Ranger, just like I was for my B-Day, Valentine's Day, Memorial Day, and probably my wife's B-day and my 29th wedding anniversary. So if I'm lucky, I'll be eating at an OK restaurant in Creede, CO. Its on Sunday, right? It's 1:30 AM and I'm on set right now. 40 degrees at 8,900 feet elevation. Here until about 6:30 AM.

I'm not sure of the rest of the meal, but I've got some alligator/pork sausage that needs to be grilled!

Ah but grilling in the yard becomes the focal point of the day. My kids are out there sipping beer while I'm grilling, the music is on, everybody is laughing and yapping, the grandkid is looking on with that WTF look...it's ALL good.

I'll probably be over at the in-laws painfully watching my FIL try to grill something.

I should schedule a tee time.

I'll be with my son watching the Rays play the Marlins and eating whatever the chefs have prepared for the servers to bring to our front row seats. Could life be any better? I submit that it could not.

I am however, gonna get chemically prepaired for the visit & pack a half-pint flask with Burbon to maintain till' the afternoon passes. My wifes cousin from Lexington should have one rolled for the "dog walk" without the wives & kids. And so it's been the same fathers day every year. Go have fun while you can.

I will be attempting to smoke a brisket for the first time. Husband came back from a business trip talking about the brisket tacos he had in some restaurant in Plano. We will see how it turns out. Advise is always appreciated.

Take plenty of time! I've cooked a few, but don't feel qualified to offer a lot of advice. However, I get the impression that a lot of people are wrapping it in foil for the last few hours. Also, after you get it to temperature, take the foil wrapped brisket, wrap it in a towel, and toss it into a cooler for a couple of hours to rest.

Plenty of other conflicting advice is out there on the internet

Good luck! Brisket is one of the more challenging BBQ treats, buwell worh it!

My experience has been that a brisket needs about 8 hours in the smoker to be tender and edible/delicious.
