City Center airport-turning into condos and apartments!!!??

Hello. Where I live we are lucky enough to have an Airport so close to Down-Town. It used to hold 737 up until 1989. Now you are not allowed over 7-9 passenger planes. This airport was a true destination and hub for WWII. For reasons -financial- they wish to close this airport (gain) and clean it up and make Disney Land Neighborhoods out of it. I am in absolute disagreement. If you wish to get to Calgary from Edmonton here, (186 miles) it will take you a Drive from your residence at least 4 hours. Flying pre- 1989. You could park for cheap at the airport and anywhere you lived you could get there in a half an hour. You can board your plane in a half an hour and your off. You get to Calgary in about 20 minutes. Now you have to drive to this pathetic wannabe 'World Hub' which is 30 minutes out of town. Parking is very expensive . Waiting times just to go less than 200 miles are ridiculous. Edmonton -whoo-International Airport - is trying desperatly to be sophisticated and it could never be I read this article in time magazine ages ago about -the jewel of having an airport in the city- I cannot find this. What is your opinion if this was happening in your city? Homestly, I like to say more, but I hate typing.

Yes Mike the City wants to increase its tax base so building hi rise apartment buildings is a way to do this. How they award the sale of lands and bldg. contracts who knows. It could be a conspiracy with the arrangement for the Edm. Intl. airport to look after all the commercial flights. It did not help though that a Mitsubushi MU2 crashed into the side of the Royal Alex hospital years back. The City in its wisdom is on a spendathon what with the new hockey arena it wants to build. Plus other new numerous expensive projects. Guaranteed your property taxes will be going up more than the rate of inflation. The City is also the city's biggest employer of people. Thankfully the mountains are only a four hour drive away and there are 50 golf courses nearbye or I would question my sanity in living here! Yes Mike I will give u a call sometime but you may find me a cranky old f...t! | ||

So what's going to happen to the racing there? I think they should close it to airplanes and make it a full time track. And you're right about the Leduc airport what a scam, it takes longer than driving there to go to the airport here for security, fly there rent a card, drive to Edmonton. Still waiting on the high speed train Bob

Well Stealthan your Calgary airport is fast getting populated with houses especially on the west side. Next thing people will be complaining about the noisy aircraft close to the houses and people. In the meantime another runway is being built. It won't be long before you have a "Leduc type airport" where you have to drive 20 miles to catch your plane. Just my fearless prediction | ||

The trains were to be bought from Europe or China- idiotic government here. Stupid a holes. I never liked living here and I am only here for my Son. Haha- might as well-nothing else to do here. BTW- the "rapid-rail-transit" is way majority above ground. So how could I set up shop as a mole easily? This City blows.

-Whoops. Forgot to state I was an A.M.E at the Edmonton Flying Club.-So I've heard many arguments and had a few. My Forman was Cameron Hagel and we were under the authority of Bill Welshe-(sp) ? Anyone know of what happened to them?
