May the Unholy Wrath of the Car Gods Strike You Down with Much Vengeance
Yeah well yes I know it's just a car. I know it's a DD with its share of road rash and battle scars. I also know that many of you feel that these battle scars are badges of pride showing that our cars aren't trailer queens. I get it.
What I don't get is walking out of the paint store just in time to see the fat -arsed (and I'm not being mean--she was truly huge) woman doing her best to unwedge her aforementioned large arse from the too-small seat of her brand new MB C Class by kicking the door open with her equally proportionate size 10 foot, right into, of course, the right front quarter panel of my car. ("C" Class---that fits for her, too) Oh. it's not just a door ding. It's a police report, insurance claim, $800 paint and body repair and an "I hope the paint matches the original finish on my 27 year old car" door ding. She offered nothing more than a dirty, smirking look as she walked into the bakery...yeah that's right. Eat some more cupcakes you &%$!%$. The Po-po does have her tag number although the officer that actually came to my house two days later to take the report said that it was unlikely anything could be proven as I did not call them at the time of the "accident". Nice rant, huh? I mean I just wanted a little paint--I guess I will buy more than I initially anticipated. As for you, Mama Cass---I guess life has already dealt you a life's share of misfortune, beginning with your morbid obesity. I already feel oddly vindicated.

So you confronted her and she smirked at you?

No confrontation---just me standing there with a 'wtf' look on my face. She never said a word--just kept walking. I could see her inside looking at me take a cell pic of her tag before I left. can't wait to see how insurance handles it.

good thing your phone has a camera - when was the last time you took a pic of your car before this?
is there any of her car's paint on your car? does the store have a video cam mounted outside??? also, you might want to carry a large hammer, a container of acid and some fire-starting materials |

Battle scars occur at the front, not in the form of door dings. Cars with door dings are neglected cars, Yours is not one of those.
With the police report, you simply take it to your bodyshop and have it fixed. Give the your ins co the tag info and pay your deductible. Oh, and just what is deductible? That's your personal insurance that these things don't happen. Since I think they do, mine is 50 bucks. |

Todd, you handled this with far more grace and dignity that I could ever muster...
I would have given her one opportunity, in a polite discussion, to provide me her insurance information. After that, my pleasant demeanor and reasonably civilized conduct would disappeared like a trailer park in a tornado. angela

some jerk in a ford wagon door dinged the brand new paint job on my '49 cadillac years ago. i moved my car out of the way and gave the door a flying double footed cave in, then left a note about his bad manners. ahh, to be young and crazy again.

Had this kind of thing happen to me years ago in a super market parking lot. Woman opened her door & hit the side of my newly painted VW camper. I happened to be sitting in it at the time, I got out & confronted her. She said, "So what." I said I was calling the police. She said they wouldn't come & went on into the store. I called & explained what happened & that the woman walked away because she claimed the police wouldn't come. 3 minutes later two highway patrol cars drove into the lot. One left & the other one stayed, listened to me, checked out the paint from my camper on the edge of her door. I was able to point her out through the front window of the store & he went into the store, read her the riot act & filled out a report. So she was wrong in that instance about them coming & her insurance company paid for the paint repair. I doubt something like that would happen now days.

I hate people like that.
Back in HS I was waiting for my sister to get out of the store (we used to hang out together) and some wombat slammed the door into the side of my 67 Chrysler, while I was sitting in it. I of course objected and was given the deal with it comments. When she had closed her door and was out of the way I used my foot to open my door...................caved in her drivers door. You gotta remember how long and heavy a late 60's door is on a two door, and about 17 feet long. They can do a fair amount of damage. Some DB's actually do need two parking spaces. ![]()

This is why I park way the hell out in every parking lot. The fat lazy ones always park close to the door.

You are a much better man than me.....I would have confronted her on the spot. I had some similar happen to me a few years ago. I had a lady back into the side of my truck and left the scene. Luckily she was staying in the same condo complex as ours so all the police had to do was wait for her dumb a$$ to return from shopping. He gave her a citation for leaving the scene of a accident. The tab was covered by her insurance....only $3500. Her excuse for leaving the scene? She said my truck was illegally parked which I agreed; it was but it was the holiday weeknd and the security personnel along with the valet guys were doing their best to cram all of the vehicles onto the property. Still give her the right to ram my truck.

My story ...
I am running errands. Go to the dry cleaners to pick up the shirts. I parked a fair ways away. As I was walking to the front door I passed another gentleman leaving with his laundry. We made eye contact, nodded hello and went on our ways. Just as I am opening the door to the laundry, I hear a THUNK of door on quarter panel coming from the general direction of where I had parked. I turn around to see my fellow laundry patron parked next to me with his door still open against my car. The guy looks at me, clearly knows that I know what he has done and then proceeds to get in his car and drive away as if nothing at all had happened. His mistake ..... my superior investigative skills. I said to the counter clerk, "Hey, I think I just embarrased myself. That fellow that just left .... I think he is a neighbor and I completely zoned and called him Tom Jones. Was I right or did I make a fool of myself?" The girl said "Oh no. That's Mr Sam Smith from Maple Street". I asked her for his phone number, since I needed to call and apologize for my social faux pas. With that information in hand, I went home and did the Google thing. Turns out he lived just a few streets over from me. Gave him a call. Said, Hi, I am the guy who's car you damaged this morning at the laundry. How do you want to handle this? Happy ending. A somewhat embarrassed Sam Smith said ..... "Ummm .. Errr .... Ahhh .... Send me the bill. I will cover it in total".

I (as most of you most likely) have lots of photos of my car--I have already visited my insurance agent and the body shop.

At least I know I'm not alone here..... BTW my deductible for UNINSURED MOTORIST is $250.....Until her insurance company ponies up that will be what I pay. Still better than $800. Angela---I think my "grace" was the result of being so furious that I couldn't think of a string of expletives bad enough to scream at her at the moment. Funnier now than it was then. I was also with my wife and that could possibly explain my restraint.

I understand. My car is in the shop for this very reason. Hit and run in a grocery store. A little more than a door ding. But if I had been you, I would have confronted her.
Best of luck! Larry |

Yes, it is nice. But it is a rant that you should have shared with her, not us.
Why did you not confront her and ask for her driver's license and insurance? And if she refused, why not call the Po Po? I would have had no problem energetically discussing this issue with the cow. |
