when is the thread for slangs of "bad" gonna start?:D

bivenator 05-21-2012 01:37 PM

spot on.

It grates my nerve to hear the word awesome attached to any minor event. This seems to come from my church going acquaintances. Everything is awesome, from the coffee, to the weather, to the traffic, it really diminishes awesome some things to have such mundane events be labeled as awesome.

rusnak 05-21-2012 01:44 PM

the bees' knees, lol

Tell the church friends that one.

I am surprised the Aussie guys haven't chimed in with "Fair Dinkum". Maybe it's an 'older crowd' expression.

I still use "nifty" quite frequently.

Also "swell" and "hunky-dory", but usually when I'm being sarcastic.

Don't forget "copacetic" and "copa".

I've heard the Aussies used to say "rippa" ("ripper"), but these days that reminds me of a bad morning TV talk show.

This guy uses "dandy" to describe just about everything: www.gunblast.com

'Fair Dinkum' has the meaning True or Genuine, similar to the term 'Deadset'.

Words/terms for 'good' are more like;
Bonza (already posted)
The Ducks Guts (already posted)
You Ripper
She'll be Right Mate
Beaut
The best thing since sliced bread

In Eugene, OR in the mid 90's, I often heard '...right on...'

Rufblackbird 05-23-2012 10:34 PM

heard this from two girls at work recently: "bomb". Not "it's da bomb", but just "it's bomb" as in "OMG this is so bomb". Yeah. Try saying that at an airport.

I was going to mention "Rightous", but it has already been stated.

One I haven't seen yet is "Aw Yeah".

And for you military type, "Oorah!", or as I like to say it, "Hoo-wah!" Or another variant depending on the crowd, "Booyah!"
