JP's Body & Fender
I know, there's a Pelican forum for this stuff but there is nowhere with as an eclectic audience as this. On with the tale.
I broke my truck.....percussive dis assembly.....along with the canopy which was not covered by my insurance.....a small point of contention and it's now mine. The good news is that I now have a truck for it to fit on. The bad news is that it is also broken and the wrong color.......sounds like the makings of a new thread, eh? The new truck (to me) also has couple decent sized dents.....more grist for this mill. I have a fella who is a paintless dent remover coming over tomorrow who is gonna take care of the dents (tho he calls them "marginal"....large for his type of work) and they are not"no paint required". Leftovers from my Porsche days are 1/2 qt of Glasurit hi build primer and 1/2 gallon of DuPont white top coat.....the new truck is white. Hay, any plan is better than none. In progress pics of the canopy. ..... ![]()

Your first prob'm s dat ya ain't frum East Texas (YES, I DID spit out my chaw 'fore sayin' dat)!!!!!
Second, why use saw horses? (Nice looking pair by the way, can I say that on here????) There is a NICE pile'o'wood (can I use wood on this forum????) in back and you could build up a rather decent stand! Not so sure what you are trying to accomplish there. Chicken wire (I like using the kind that ain't rusted out) makes a good substrate for building up bondo. Give it a try! I do not see any canope' in those photos and they have a short shelf life. Kind of agree in insurance not covering your deserts/snacks unless they were destroyed in a house fire or something. Can't talk about dent removal, no one bothers with that back home. I find that in order to make a tasteful red, white, and blue truck the removal of the blue tape and replacement of it with blue paint is very helpful. How did you use a drum to take that whole thing apart? I just cannot comprehend that... Other than that, looks good! I like white trucks. When I have to replace the 3/4 tonne then we will likely get another white one. Are the back braces on the canopy supported well enough inside? How did you meld/weld/reconnect the fiberglass on the topper? This area takes alot of indirect stress and direct stress from the rear glass being opened and closed. How did the attachment points for the struts fair during the ordeal? Just curious, did the canopy/topper blow off the back of the truck?

WOW, pretty!!!
Hope you and yours faired OK in this! Frame damage, broken axle or at least entire wheel assembly broken away. Other than that, really not a bad looking truck. I like toppers but they make it difficult to hook up our goosenecks.

The paintless dent removal guy is coming this morning. Here's a couple pics of the divots that will challenge him. This is my first experience with the PDR so we (and you) will see what they can do with a "marginal case". Should prove interesting so I'll keep a close eye on the proceedings....and post more pics of the results.

That crease will be hard to push. I doubt he will get it perfect.

My intent was to get the basic shape close ....a perfect removal is impossible as the gouges are too deep & tight....that is a grind, fill, & paint job. He got the shape good and I asked for no "proud" metal in the area. I can fill up to about 1/8" (plus kill the rust with Rust-Mort)or less with Bondo. I got what I asked for in about 4 hours of his work. The rest is up to me.

The ding is fixed "good enuff" for a truck. Still gotta do some blending/color sanding/buffing. The canopy is ready for a color change. I'm gonna shoot that in about an hour or so. My natural talents are limited so I have to learn by doing. .....

I made a mistake while driving and came across someone that didn't let me get away with it.......no attempt to slow or swerve near as I could or tell. Sometimes you eat the bear but sometimes the bear eats you.
![]() The truck was totaled out by my insurance co. as the cost to repair was $17.4K. They valued it at $20.8k. I didn't think it was that bad as the frame had no visible impact........but I took the cash & ran.

Thank God that's over.
I don't know how guys do this paint stuff for a full time living. Maybe with an air fed face mask it wouldn't be such of a trial. My home use PPE was insufficient. An old right shoulder injury didn't help much either.....or maybe I'm just getttin' old. ......![]()

I did the shop in yellow once.![]() Actually, the new medium pressure (30-40 psi) guns are pretty decent with limiting over spray. I like using it better than my HVLP gun which does better still with the OS.....but the spray pattern sux. I haven't any overall pics that I've taken but here's one stolen from CL.....the actual rig I bought. ..... ![]()

That we do, Milt. Gettin' old, ain't we.
I sold the car to my co-driver. He put a 2.0L turbo Subie in it and Lotus Elise F&R suspension on it.....it went from my black hole to his. It's pretty trick but sorely in need of development. There is a thread about it on 914world but that site is off line now......hacked by a DOS attack. 2WD with LSD, Vash.
