If you want to feel young:
And you're a middle-aged guy like me, just hang out with much older people. I went to coffee with my Dad and his buddies today in Mpls. Just like me, my Dad goes to the same coffee shop every day but he goes at noon and hangs with his pals. I go in the AM in Los Angeles and bury my head in a laptop, getting work done and arguing with you guys.
![]() The guy in the denim shirt furthest from camera is my Dad, he's 80 and hasn't eaten solid food in 10 years since he was sliced-up for throat cancer. His health was severely compromised but he's still ticking along. The guy nearest was my Dad's first law partner, I've known him since about 1962. Love the guy. He still works. The guy in the red shirt is 90 y.o. and fought in WW2. He's been friends with my Dad since about 1950. The other guy is another 80 year old friend who is in fantastic shape still, just truly amazing. Jim, the 90 y.o., asked me how old I was now. I told him 52. Of course he said, "Jesus...just a baby." ![]() It's all relative. To some college kid, I'm ancient. To a 90 y.o., I'm a kid. So there you have it. ![]() ![]() |

Denis, EXCELLENT post. I'm 58 and I don't know where the last 33 years have gone since I moved to LA from Boston in 1979.

Yes, +1. I really love talking to older guys, who in my opinion have so much class, and still can teach me a thing or two.
Dennis, your dad looks like a cool guy. Edit: omg Hugh you're old. lol JK! Last edited by rusnak; 05-22-2012 at 03:19 PM.. |

Thanks, buddy. That's 3 Korean war guys and one WW2. Jim said that he had such a good time in liberated France that he was sorry that the war had to end.

F'n A Speeder. Are you in town?
To the people not in the know, the men in this picture are legends in Minneapolis. I got schooled by a couple of them and am a better man for it. |

Tom Gallagher used to pick my Dad up to car-pool downtown when I was small child and my young parents only had one car. He had a new '62 Pontiac GP convertible that I was enthralled with. I remember asking my Dad about the wheels? He told me they were, "mag wheels"...
These are the kind of indelible memories a 3 y.o. gearhead keeps for life. ![]() |

Yeah, I know. No hair on top but 5' 10" and 170 lbs, I kick boots with the wife 3 times a week at least (when I'm home). Two weeks ago BP at the Doctors office was 120/80. I travel the World courtesy of my employer. In the last year, Prague twice, Istanbul, Budapest, Vancouver, BC too many times. London, Boston twice, NYC three times, and recently Albuqueqrue, NM too many times.

And that fourth guy (not described) is the main character directly from the movie Sin City.
Not recommended to meet in a dark alley. Lookin' good all. Whatever it is, keep doing it. |

VERY cool post, thanks.
you have to reflect, we're always going to be Mom and Pops little kids, the changes they've seen in technology, and world society............wow. I visit my Grandpa several times a year, he'll be 100 this summer..........and he's still sharp for old memories.........amazing how the brain works, sharp for old memories from the 30's, 40's, 50's, but you can show him a photo one minute and the same photo 30 minutes later and it's like the first time he saw it. Gotta respect the old people, they've walked in our shoes before..........gawddd I sound just like my parents.

GREAT Post.
I put in my letter last week to retire after 30 years active and reserve Navy. I see the "kids" who I interviewed when they were coming in, and they have over 20 now.

Way to go Denis! Your Dad looks like "Coolhand Luke" sittin' back there nonchalant. Great looking group of guys that I'm sure could tell stories for days that would amaze us.
Have fun and enjoy, coffee at noon ain't so bad. ![]()

Good stuff Denis, shooting the bull with my buddies over coffee sounds like a good way to spend my retirement.

Over three hundred years of experience in that photograph. If they tell ya something Sonny, do listen.
