Lug bolt engagement?

Working on this Jetta I discovered the front lugs only have three turns.

I was always under the impression it should be 7-9 or until the bolt comes through the back of the hub.

Three turns seems unsafe.
The rears are longer bolts and get 11 turns, BTW.

Thread contact is 1.5X the width of the fastener. For example, a 10mm thread diameter gets 15mm of nut or bore contact. Three revs, no matter the thread pitch, is not enough for safe operation .

Must be aftermarket rims.
Need longer studs or replace OEM wheels unless the lug nuts are made of unobtainium.

I'd drive half a block at 1.5mph, but nothing further.

Thanks for reassuring me of my feelings on this.
Yes, aftermarket BBS rims.

One lug on each front wheel is already missing

Not good. You should be able to get longer studs from Bildon Racing.

Don't listen to these fools, yo. Lighter is faster. I only use two bolts/wheel on my wife's car.

Good resource, but I couldn't find lug bolts. Only studs and nuts.
I'll get a set of studs for my 914!
