are you a fast eater?
i think it is a reason i am fat!! (easy now, i am losing weight pretty fast right now)
i can inhale food. yesterday, i got a burrito. we had some problems on the jobsite, and lunch time faded away without a mention. 1:15, i am double fisting a veggie burrito. literally shaking from lack of food (i'm weird that way, i shake and get very grouchy). i think i ate the burrito in about 2.5 minutes. i signed up for a nutrition class at my hospital. i'll research there; but i think i can get MORE food into my stomach before some internal clock in my body tells me i am full. if i wait, i get fuller just sitting there. i've heard military guys eat fast..i dont know where i learned it. you? |
Slow eater.
This reminds me of a girlfriend I had in HS with 7 brothers and sisters, now that family could strip a ham and turkey in no time. |
Fast eater...thanks USN. We used to frequently run ship-wide drills during meal times. If you didn't get your food quickly and practically inhale it, you often had to leave it sitting as you and your fellow shipmates rushed off to your station for whatever drill was being run. Decades later, I still can't myself slow down.

Faster eater...thanks two older brothers and a dad.
My friends hate it, and when I go on dates I have to force myself to put down the fork and slow down. Kind of embarrasing. |
I eat fairly fast, and people think I eat all of the time, but I'm 6'2" and 195#.
But yes, if you eat fast (like I do) you don't get the chemical that tells you that you're full until after you've over eaten. I've heard that eating some avocado at the beginning of a meal can kickstart the process. I've also had several ex military guys tell me that because they were forced to wolf down their food in basic training, they still do. |
my dad was in the navy. (USS coral sea). i blame him :D. the man's fork was a blur!

I can eat pretty fast, again courtesy of the USN, learned it in Great Lakes, IL.
I find that if I do not eat after 1800, weight is not a problem. I read a study recently where they had two groups of lab rats, one group ate whenever they pleased, 24/7, other group ate between 0800 and 1600 with no food in between. Same amount of calories, group that fasted for 14 hours was lean and mean, other group was fat. Maybe it works on humans too. |

mom was one of seven, so she was a fast eater. Guess I took after her, which came in pretty handy during army basic training!

I grew up eating fast because I had to.
My grandpa was a farmer, and us grandkids used to hang around with him in the summer. He'd have his usual stops at Denny's or other coffee shops. When it was time to eat, he'd order us all the same thing - like 6 Grand Slam breakfasts. Then he'd eat fast, pay and head for the truck. If you weren't in the truck when his door closed, you were left behind. Back in those days we used to ride in the back of the pickup truck, and carry a shovel. I miss those days. I learned to not complain and to rely on myself, became un-sissyfied in a hury. |

Tobra is rather fetching as well. Vash may need a burrito intervention.:D |
I'd offer to help vash, but not if he's pounding down veggie <gack> burritos.

I WAS a slow eater, but then I got to high school. We had 22 minute lunch periods. I was used to 50 minute lunch periods in middle school. The first day of high school, the bell rang when I had only taken two bites from my sandwich. It was worse if you bought your lunch. It took about 15 minutes to get through the line, leaving you 7 minutes to eat. Ever since, I have been a fast eater. |
22 minutes? That's lunch and a nap.

Your body secretes a hormone Leptin when it senses you've eaten enough. Many "fast eaters" will overeat because they out pace the release and subsequent uptake of the hormone in the brain.
As for those you who ate fast for various reasons, you didn't necessarily get a full plate of food. That's a far cry from folks who belly up to the buffet and have their third plate emptied before their coffee gets cold. |
