Each man was also a marksman and had Kentucky long rifles. Those guys were the toughest and best of their time.

Neat. There is a large framed poster of that in our gunsmithing lab.

I enjoyed hearing about the gun, but the guy giving the presentation was about as exciting as cold oatmeal.

1500 psi air tank next to your face, neck, jugular, spine and getting shot at.....OK, really......

BTW, silent propellant.

How come this hasn't been an assassin device, either long gun or pistol?

Somehow I doubt it is really silent....

A 1000FPS break barrel airgun is louder than some .22's!

There are plenty of modern pre-charged pneumatic, big bore air rifles in .357, .45, .50 caliber and bigger. Some say they are suitable for deer hunting (with less power than a .38 Special, I'm not sure I buy that). They are quite loud, some even louder than a .22 long rifle. No such thing as a "silent" air rifle with enough poop to be used as this one was intended.

As an aside, Napoleon himself decreed that any enemy soldier caught with an air rifle was to be put to death. It wasn't so much that you could not hear them, but more that they didn't smoke. And could be reloaded relatively quickly when compared to the muskets of the day.

Oh, and modern ones run at 3,000-4,000 psi.
