Shop Floor Broom Fix - DIY

So to some people I'm sure this will be a stoopid post

But I really got tired of breaking the handles off of my shop floor brooms running it into "stuff" while sweeping up in my shop or barn....

Went to Lowes and spent $20 on a new broom, got home with it and was ready to toss the old one.......screw that I said, I have a perfectly good handle, and a perfectly good head, I just need some farmer engineering to brace it........and make it stout.....

.........Couple of shelf brackets I had laying around and some screws later, and I don't think I'll break the handle off of this one anytime soon..........it may look ugly, but it's stout!

Not a stupid post.

I had to clean up my Fathers Machine Shop for years and I know exactly what you are talking about.
Usually industrial booms come with a couple of wire braces attached with a wood screw. Eventually they will loosen and are lost and you end up with a flinging rod every time you make a sweep stroke.

Anyway, you have done well in the 'Heavy Duty'-field.

I wish I had your broom back then.

If you guys can't drive your brooms any better, I'd hate to see how you drive your cars.

That's a fine DIY - but you do know they sell brooms similarly braced? Still, great job!

I used to hate the wooden handle breaking off at the threads or always coming loose.
One day I broke the darn thing and looked around and noticed I had an aluminium pole designed for a paint roller fer painting ceilings and stuff.

it's the extendable type that you can make longer or shorter. Guess what? it screwed right into the broom and fit nice.
5 years later haven't had a single problem with it, no breaky no loosey.

Is this collar cool enough?

I'm sure she'll heel, sit, and stay if you command her right then feed her a treat.........

There are actually broom handle brackets you can buy for this exact purpose. I believe my parents sell them in Maltby (janitorial supply business).

Are these brackets you speak of more than $.49 cents each and otherwise gathering dust in your shop?

and who really ever goes shopping at a "janitorial supply business" With todays gas prices it'll cost me $20 in fuel to fix a $15 broom with a .$.49 bracket that I have laying around.
