Thinking of a Glock 19 Gen 4

Anyone here have experience with these to share ? I've heard they cycle poorly with range ammo.

I own a Gen 3 G17 and G26.

I have literally not found any ammo that will cause these guns not to cycle. I have shot everything from +P+ loads to my own plinking reloads (which are on the very light end of the scale and will cause my friend's Sig not to cycle).

I have put thousands of rounds through each pistol, and I have never had any sort of malfunction, ever. (Aside from intentionally caused malfunctions during malfunction drills.) I did one training session where I put around 2000 rounds through the G17 over a weekend and without cleaning, and never had a single problem the entire time.

All I know is that I'm not sure what long gun I would select for the zombie apocalypse\Mayan apocalypse\Greek default\End of Days\Rapture, but I know what will be strapped to my hip.

what kind of issues? everything I've read so far says that the 03 recoil springs have had to be replaced with an 04. (i honestly don't know what the 03/04 means).

Shot a glock for the first time in 20 years the other day, happened to be a Gen 4 in 40 S&W w/ the crimson trace laser grips... accurate, reliable (we put the first 250 rounds thru it when it came out fo the box). But... for me with my small hands (when I had to wear sterile gloves I used 7 1/2s...) it felt like gripping a 2x4. Much prefer my 1911 with slim grips.

If I were to get a 9mm, I'd be torn between a CZ75 and a Browning High Power...

+1 on the BHP.

Glocks do not feel right in my hand.

Funny story about a glock. I'm shooting at the range. The guys next to me are shooting a 357 and a glock. I'm heading out and the guy with the glock asks me if there is something wrong with his pistol. I take a look, then nail 3 10x shots at about 7 yards. He buddy just starts laughing.

I hear that on the GEN 4 the spring is too strong and will cause the slide to close faster than usual and it'll have a stove pipe.. but after a new recoil spring it'll be fixed... My buddy said his GEN 3's have been flawless but has had some trouble with his GEN 4. Glocks warranty and service are pretty good about taking care of stuff though. He hates the M&P compared to his Glock

gen 3, G21 here. i opted for the "SF" model. for small frame.

it fits my hand GREAT. personally, i got the glock for the apocalypse. ..where there are no gunsmiths anymore, and i am scrounging for ammo. it has never jammed on me ever. and i have shot some really cheap ammo.

the gen 4 guys are simply changing out the recoil spring and calling it good.

Mine in gen 3. Pretty sure the gen 4s have an extra spring in the preloaded recoil spring assembly and I think I've heard there's a recall on some of them. They're dirt cheap anyway, I think under $20. I love the RTF and gills slide serrations version of the gen 4 and will get one eventually. Took me 20 yrs. to warm up to Glocks, but my 23 is now my main carry gun. I did have a FTF at the range two weeks ago with Eric Coffey. But I think I had read that really flat JHPs don't do well in those guns and I was running Speer Gold Dots. I took the offending mag apart, cleaned and stretched the spring and reloaded with Hornady Critical Defense, which have much sharper tips and are less likely to get hung up on each other.

If you can afford it and stand the bang, you could go with a .357SIG model Glock. That round has a bottleneck casing and is almost impossible to FTF.

FTF - failure to feed

FTE - failure to eject

Yep, the Glock guys at the range always admire how the CZ75 shoots and looks compaired with their tupperware guns.

You might consider the S&W M&P. I considered the Glock but they just don't fit my hand. S&W with the Apex tactical trigger kit is a fantastic gun.

YMMV.

I can only report issues a friend has dealt with. New gen 4 9mm, g19 I think. Cycling errors in general, ftf more than a few times. New parts installed, extractor and spring I think. Still has issues.

Really odd to me considering I've never had a an issue with my 17 or 35. My 17 is a used service piece so I have no idea how many miles on it, but it's solid and I would trust it no matter what. Disappointing.

Our loan/rent gun at the range a G17 gen 3 never gets cleaned, fires all sorts of 9mm ammo and hasn't had a single missfire or fail to load.

Local range had one that would double or triple fire every now and then.
