.380 ammo

Anyone know a good place to purchase .380 auto target ammo at a cheap price?
35¢-50¢/round is ridiculous! I'm willing to buy in bulk if necessary.

Unless you start reloading yourself I don't think you will find commercially available ammo for under the price range you quoted. Not sure how much all the reloading equipment costs but for cheap range shooting it is hard to beat 22 caliber you can probably buy a 22 pistol for the price of the reloading equipment. I use a Ruger 22 to stay sharp and then every once in a while take the 40 S&W.

I reload my own .380 because it's not always easy to find and when you do find it the price is ridiculous or they only have hollowpoints and I need range ammo. My wife has run at least 1200 rounds of my "handmade 380" through her Ruger LCP and I've run a lot through a Sig P230. The brass and bullets are not always easy to find, either...

380 ammo

Take a look on Gunbroker.com. There are several dealers with fmj ammo for about $269-$289 per 1000 rounds. Thats a bit better than what you had found. One of the dealers is bound to be close to where you live which would reduce shipping costs. Or, if you bought a couple thousand rounds they might pay the shipping! Good luck.

The guy at the shop I bought my little Taurus at told me that I'd "be crazy to reload .380". I'm not sure exactly what he meant, but I'd think I'd be crazy NOT to reload .380. IMO it is the perfect caliber for reloading. Bullets are relatively cheap because they are the same size as 9mm (though much lighter--don't load a .380 with a 147 grain bullet).

The biggest problem I have with .380 is having an adequate amount of spare cases around. I tend to lose a few at the range, and you do have to pay close attention to the cases as they are easy to crush. (Going on muscle memory after reloading 9mm is a bad idea.)

I reload .45 ACP, 9mm, .38 Special, .380 ACP, .30 Carbine, and .32 ACP. It is much cheaper that way, and I have the time. Reloading is an enjoyable end in itself. My biggest reason for reloading is that I can load a lighter load that is much easier on my arthritic hands, particularly my right thumb. Every now and then our local Cabela's will have a sale on 9mm and/or .380, so I usually buy a box or two.

Same here, Tom! I don't reload .30 Carbine, because I don't have one but I love reloading, especially during the cold MI winters. I didn't reload much at all last winter, but it's a great hobby, especially now that friends save their brass for me.
