telephone pedestal removal
If a phone pedestal will never be used (construction has precluded a building being placed on that half of a lot) can the pedestal designated to that lot be removed/elminated?

It's in the master plan, but you can deal with communications folks. If it becomes a splice box, it's permanent.

It's a non-op (or at least it's not feeding my house) pedestal that sits at the front of two lots I own. It is an eye-sore and I'd most like it to be removed if possible. That corner has this pedestal, a yield sign, a street corner sign, a fire hydrant and a water sampling thingy.

are you prepared to pay the expense of removal? If so, then speak with the phone company, otherwise I'd let it stay.

Get off my lawn!

Just get a tractor or some other equipment on the property and then accidentally back over the thing. If it does not get fixed right away you will know it is abandoned.

I don't know what the public road easement regs are in your country, but my bet is it isn't even on your property, it's on the towns property.

THis is definitely one of those situations where it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Since it is on the corner it is more likely to be a splice box. Is it locked?? If not look inside. If it is locked, borrow a 'borrow' scope (we are trialing a nice Clarus Video stylet that would be puurfect), and take a look. If it has several terminals the whole block may depend on it. If it seems not that complex then use a conductive liquid (read saline) to test it in a less destructive manner. If the phone company comes to address a service a complaint from down the block then you can meander over and get some real info. Why not a box flush with the grass? The water sampling thing and all make that corner a bit busy. Those services need miniturization. This was written from the point of view that I presume I know why pavulon is your handle.

Thanks for the replies.
I looked at the pedestal again. No locks and looks like it splits after taking the top off...not sure how secure the top is attached but it didn't pull off easily. Maybe I'll try again after dark. As you can see, my mower doesn't lend itself to crush accidents very well (w/ gratuitous house pic). I frequently regret selling my 445 rider but I'd probably be even more fat if I still had it (but my foot would thank me...I love middle age!!). We tried the Clarus Shikani a few years ago and found the image to be pretty bad. Ended up with a McGrath and Glidescope which have worked well for us. Have you tried them? ![]() |

You mow that yard with that tiny thing? Wow, Impressive!
Could you conceal those warts with a small grove of trees?

Too much lawn. I'd put in a hedge between the house and the equipment.

With a 50-foot running start you can kill two birds with one stone. I recommend the John Deer riding mowers.
