Is anyone leasing their solar panels?
My folks just did this and it's immediately cutting their elec. bill by 50%. The solar panel installer owns and maintains the panels and my folks sign over all SRECs and other gov't. incentives to them. The place they're using doesn't work outside of NJ, so I found one that's doing it in AZ.
While you can do it for no upfront money and are never on the hook for anything but a monthly fee, the savings appears to be based on the fact that our power co. increases their rates 5% each year. There's not much savings in the first five years, but it gets good thereafter. I only paid $1800 all last year for electricity, which I think it pretty reasonable. But if I can save even a dime for no upfront or even longterm cost and it helps the grid, I'm all for it. Are there better deals out there?
