Dark Knight Rises
Looks epic. This guy knows how to make movies. Still a fan of Memento.

From the trailers, I don't see any performances coming close to Heath Ledger's "The Joker".

Both look entertaining. Better than John Carter (of Mars) [the original title]. We spent an insane amount of money on that. The press said $250 million, but it was closer to $350 million.

I saw the preview for Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter the other day. The idea seems ridiculous, but the movie looks like it could be entertaining.

That's a shame about John Carter. My wife was looking forward to it, but we gave it a pass because we didn't see/hear anything good about it.

Total marketing eff up. The original title was John Carter of Mars. Which might have made for a better audience. I don't know why they didn't call it Fred Smith. About as stupid. I saw it in ABQ a few weeks ago in the evening when I was on The Lone Ranger. I thought it was very OK. No better and no worse than many other Sci-Fi or fantasy movies I seen in the last few years. I think the marketing and name of the movie are what killed it.

Same thing... different movie.... One scene in the trailer featured a "Dragon Wagon" like I drove in Okinawa, way back in 1985.

IMAX tickets went on sale today. Picked up mine.
Probably never going to be another Film like this with the extensive use of IMAX high resolution images being shot on film.

At no time during the John Carter ad blitz did I see any reference to Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Not only was this disrespectful to ERB, but it probably hurt in not tying in the movie concept & story to classic sci-fi/fantasy. To quote the Washington Post: "Why didn’t Disney feature Burroughs’s name more prominently? Or intone: “From the creator of Tarzan...”? Or add a tag*line that suggests the time-line: ”Before there was Star Wars...”?" "...if you were trying to bury a film, such (lack of) signage and angle would certainly be the first way to do it. " Btw, I agree about the new Abraham Lincoln movie - absurd concept, but looks well made if you are into that kind of thing. |
