Good friend of mine flew part of the attempted rescue on BAT 21... the real thing, not the movie.
He said that it was a lot "sportier" than the movie shows...

Wow Joe.....amazing. "Bat 21" the movie comes on this coming Saturday too - I've seen it before but will try to watch again. A lot of historical perspective - even though it was a very screwed up political war our military did the best they could under the circumstances. The general public has no idea of course - including me I guess because I wasn't there but as a teenager I do remember the chaos and carnage.

Baz,
Yep, this guy flew Huey "Dustoff" choppers during the war and went into the mix to pick up some of the downed crewmembers. The situation was just too "sporty" for them to get in and pick up BAT 21, so they stayed out of small arms range until having to RTB for fuel. By that time it was getting dark... They have bigger "nuggets" than I did back then... Glad they were on our side! Joe A

A lot of unsung heroes Joe.....those guys were men amongst men. Back to the movie - Willem Dafoe's character is what made that movie. He's always great to watch.....
Thanks again for your comments, Joe! ![]()

Agreed and watching him in "To live and Die in LA" is one of my favourites...
