Speaking of Ford Excursions...

My daugher and I took the 911 out for a nice ride this afternoon heading up to Little Bavaria.

We are sitting at a traffic signal and I hear faint music. As it gets closer I see the front of an Excursion in my driver's side mirror. I look up just as the vehicle stops for the light. Their windows were down and they were cranking Justin Beiber!!! WTH?!! Seriously?!!

Who jams out to Justin Beiber? I tried cranking up the crappy stereo in the 911 but it just couldn't compete with the Excursion even if it WAS VH's "Cradle will Rock".

When the light changed I let them go first and then was treated to a snoot full of diesel exhaust. I don't have A/C so I run with the windows open when not at freeway speeds.

You admitted to being able to distinguish beiber! You have beiber-fever!?

Seriouslythough I would love a diesel excursion. That is what we are talking about, right?

Yep, big ol' diesel Ford Excursion.

I only know it was that Bieber punk because I have seen the lyrics to "Baby, Baby" posted here on Pelican.

Luckily, neither of my kids have discovered today's pop music. My wife listens to country and I listen to heavier rock stations.

It amazes me that a Bieber type can get so much more fame than a scientist/engineer (not even looking at the money they make). I bet 90% of kids can identify Bieber by voice but couldn't tell you who invented the USB system they use every day to feed Bieber into their iPods.

I know nothing about the beaver music ... but I used to have an 01 excursion - diesel, 4x4, limited. It was an awesome truck. Unfortunately it got wrecked by a texting teen rear ending my family at about 45mph without hitting the brakes. It saved my family and put the teen into the hospital - but it was totaled. Unfortunately I could not find a clean one for what the pay out was. They hold their value exremely well. Nobody makes a good towing SUV.

On that note, why doesn't Chevy put a diesel in the Suburban / Tahoe? Seems straight forward, no?

I have had lots of diesels, even an Excursion, but would take a gas Suburban over a diesel (or gas) Excusion any day

Disclaimer: I currently have a 8.1L gas Suburban 2500 4x4 tow rig

I was just going to ask why would I know who invented the USB system. Oh and I probably would have never known it was Bieber they were blasting. I heard the song but never made the connection.

a diesel suburban would be wonderful.

an excursion is just too huge. my brother has one as his work vehicle. but gas..he never said why, but he hates it.

why do some diesel rigs smoke like crazy? do they do it on purpose? i dont think i can get my brother 3/4 ton to blow black like that.

Even if I could identify a Justin Beiber song just by listening to it I wouldn't admit it.

A buddy of mine makes a decent living swapping new Duramax drivetrains into Suburbans, H2s, H3s, H1s, and other GM products.

Ah, I don't think he does H3s. But it's really popular in H1/H2 and Subs. Not cost effective, but popular.

Yes, he does. One of his personal trucks is an H3 with a heavily modified Duramax, I think it has about 500 HP. It's a tight fit but looks very OEM.

If I ever did a Duramax Suburban swap, I'd do it right and swap the tunnel sheet metal from the donor truck. Those body-lifts like the one in the picture look like dog schit on something costing what they charge for that conversion. That generation of GM trucks had an unfortunate body design that completely exposed the huge ladder frame even before a body-lift. Looks like crap.

Mash Motors offers 6.0L GAS H3s and Duramax H1s and H2s.

If he did a Duramax H3 for his personal rig, that doesn't mean he offers them to the public regularly. You'd have to swap darn near everything out..... the H3 isn't even a half ton. That Duramax would eat differentials and axles and uprights and....

I've seen one H3 Duramax conversion, and they did a solid front axle conversion and spent a bazillion dollars making it stout enough to handle the weight and power.

I love my Powerstroke Exursion. Its an '04 Limted, and yes I know it has the 6.0L in it that a lot of people don't like. I have right at 100K on it, and with the exception of an alternator and balljoints, it has been rock solid. I really like the transmission and the towing capblitites.

I DIY on it (brakes only so far) since it is prett simple.

I haven't done any mods to the engine due its inherient head stud issues. The only thing I really want to do is swap the springs/Blsteins and add a swaybar from the F350. My camper has a tongue weight of right at 1000 pounds and fully loaded comes in at 12,500 pounds so the extra spring would be nice.

I'll ask him next time I talk to him. I thought it was a Duramax but I could be wrong, we were drinking when he was showing it off.

I have a 2003 Excursion Diesel, 145K and so far so good, I did have the issue with the batteries and alternator but after I up graded them she has been good, the thing is a beast! I installed air bags on the back so the ride is suburb.
