need a small vibrator motor
something small like used in massage chairs. Pager vibrators too small.
I need to randomly vibrate a 12" X 16" .125" aluminum plate that is supported by 2" tall springs on 4 corners. a 1.5 lb device will be attached to this plate. looking for something off the shelf, but Grainger and McMaster not working. Might have to head to the adult store.... thanks. |
Yeah that's the ticket. I think you need a big one. Care what color?
|
Couldn't you use any motor with a counterweight attached?
|
How about a small palm sander...Just checked. Harbor freight has them on sale for as low as $12.99
|
Look in the top drawer of the night stand on her side of the bed, towards the back.
|
I'll ask my wife.....

I think this is one technical topic the women of pelican are more qualified to answer....
|
Cash, that'll get her motor going.
|
sure I can make one, but this is a display that will be in a retail environment and want something that is designed to vibrate....so it doesn't break.
My Google search only finds out of country suppliers. |
how fast do you need it to vibrate? like a palm sander (great idea btw!) or undulated like a slow roller?
a vibration motor is nothing more than a regular motor with a off balance eccentric wheel right? |
slow roller...think shakey hands holding cam corder.
going to dig in basement for kids old vibrating ball toy thingy. Really like to be able to add variable speed as well so I can dial it in. |
oh/!! that is easier..i thought you were doing some earthquake demonstration...school science fair thing.
you dont need alot of power.. i bet you will need to make one. all the vibrators i am thinking about buzz..not shake. |
How about something like a bass shaker? Aura AST-2B-4 Pro Bass Shaker 299-028
|
for small vibes, you can attach the plate to a audio loudspeaker and use a signal generator and amp on it -- a colleague a Duke did that to ... well, never mind

thanks! I can see why some people here have some big post counts..... |
How about one of these, they vibrate like hell....
|
2" tall springs doesn't give you much room on the underside. Does it matter what axis the vibrations are? Search on eBay for "vintage hand massager."

Wow, I just happen to save the vibrator out of my dad's old lounge chair.
How's this look to you? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339802789.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339802800.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339802809.jpg |
too big...thanks
|
Infant bouncy chairs? Used to soothe the little one to sleep. Often have different frequency settings (though they're fixed, not variable).
|
Occupational/Hand therapists also have hand-held vibrating massagers they use for desensitization and scar massage.

this motor is the size of a spool of sewing thread.
nice call Noah! what a great resoursce this board is. |
Contact Todd(9dreizig). He sells stuff along these lines....
|
The printing industry uses something called a jogger. The idea is that a lift of paper is vibrated into a corner. This is the first step before the lift (or stack) goes to the trimmer then to assembly.
They come in all sizes to jog paper from 8.5 x 11 to 30 x 40. Maybe you can find a used one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339846698.jpg |
How about something like this?

I'm going to play with the bouncy seat motor today. Might add a variable controller to it so I can give customer ability to dial in the right feel. Thanks. |

We had a paint shaker like that.... make damn sure you clamp the cans tight, otherwise it will chuck them across the shop, and make everything within a large radius british racing green.....
|
I Have no reason to shake paint. I just like old junk
|
thought about this thread tonight after I took apart a couple old electric shavers to see how they work. I took apart a battery powered one and also a a/c powered one but the concept is the same. a cam on the shaft makes the head vibrate. not sure if this would work for your application but here's pictures of both.. I also have one of those cheap seat cushions with several vibrating motors I"ll have to take apart now... if I can find it

Or you could just hook up an old Harley motor: noise and shaking!
Sorry. :D Les |
John,
for my prototype, that's basically what I have except I added a. 1.5" diameter disk to the shaft so I could place some more weight further out. I'm going to build my own vibrator with a stepper motor. client is happy with results so far. |
