Email virus
I think this may be at least semi-on-topic....
Over the past couple of weeks I have been receiving MANY emails containing attachments with a virus included. I am only active on this board and ebay so I was curious if others have been getting the same ones. The most recent was from wds911e, sort of 911 related! BK |

I too have received several virus-laden emails lately.
for safe computing, the following still applies: 1) install & keep updated your anti-virus software 2) NEVER NEVER open emails from unknown senders until you have scanned them (and any attachments) for viruses.

I too was getting hammered almost 4 or 5 a day then they just stopped. It seemed to be the Email worm virus all the time and most of them where from out of the country. If you go to the Symantic page there is an alert out.
You can also download a program to check to see if you have the virus and are just sending out yourself.

I was using "zone alarm", a free firewall, for the last couple of months.
A couple times I got on this board and started getting hammered with alarms, sometimes 5 a minute. I then got a popup asking me if I wanted my computer to be used as a server (i.e like some file sharing services like nuttella). Once, I coundn't even access any pages on the site. I got a white screen and a "this computer is not connected to a network" message in the upper left corner. I got off, scanned with "ad-aware"from lavasoft and found a cookie/trojan from doubleclick and another site. I made a point of not keeping a history of anything and getting off with too many hits, but unfortunatelly I am now getting a few e-mail advertisments. A few days ago my computer just up and stopped booting:it kept polling the empty A: drive with a message "not a system disk". You guys might want to use Ad-aware and Zonealarm. In the news recently were reports about a certain asian superpower nation using their computer students to lauch hack-attacks against U.S. military networks to gain info. |
