Thanks for sharing, Henry. Don earned God points when calling you first ..

Very sorry to hear of your Fathers passing. Great picture of your dad behind the wheel. I hope you frame that up in your garage!
I have a fondness for Flatheads. I came home from the hospitol back in 1966 in a 1940 Ford Deluxe Business coupe. Dad still has it and it will be mine in the future. Dad keeps talking about dropping a small blck Chevy in it! The 280ci Flathead that he has in it is the smooooothiest engine that I've ever seen or heard. I really need to vidie tape this car running. Just smooth. |
Excellent from a-y, you get to pick z. I wish I had just one of my Dad's former cars: '57 and '59 Ford Skyliner, '63 'Vette, '66 Chrysler 300. Keep that Rod and enjoy life!

Great!! I'm very happy for you!

I want to thank all of you for your thoughtful words.
Here are a few more pictures of this little gem. Henry, that car is fantastic. I hope driving it will give you rest and peace with your fathers passing. I'm sure he will ride with you....

The 29 went to Don in trade for a 69 T.
Don did his thing with the little roadster. I did mine with the Porsche we got in trade. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340337004.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340337107.jpg |
You did the right thing by buying your dad's hot rod & preserving some special memories. It's a special rod by any meaning of the word & a flat head to boot.
|
Very nice!!!!!
|
Nice rod, and an even better story.
|
Good Ju ju. Nicely done on both fronts Henry . I like what was said above about your dad riding with you.
|
Good JuJu for sure. A family heirloom.
Not to mention, when you look back at the whole history and trades, sounds like it worked out well. That cool Ford, and the 69T? What a pair! |
What else is in the driveway?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1340371956.jpg That's another story. All through high school, I desperately wanted a Lotus Elan. I drew pictures, collected magazine articles and spent hour at the local Rolls dealer (authorized Lotus Dealer). As I got older, I drove a few and even raced one but I never owned one. I got a chance to buy this little 73 Elan Plus II about two years ago. Dream come true, right? WRONG what a piece of crap. No ponies, horrible breaks, incredibly pure engineering and at 5'11" 260 it's just too friggin small. What are those Dire Straits lyrics? sing along Money for nothin' and your chicks for free I want my, I want my, I want my Porsche SC OH well. Anyone want a Lotus ? smile |
Great thread! You deserve this, Henry!! I wish I could come out to Fallbrook to visit!!
|
i love the additional pics!!
i would do a massive burnout on the way to dad's final resting place..get there and say, "dad, look what i got!". |

Wow. Awesome rod, really great taste and skill involved with that. It is very valuable but I would never sell it. The '50s style with the flathead makes it for me, that's the only way I like them and I like them a lot.
Talk about provenance. That is a serious pedigree and family heirloom. Sorry about your Dad but it sounds and looks like he lived well. :) |
How is the '29 Ford treating you Henry?
