You have to blame the parents also. My parents would have beat the effin piss out of me if i ever did something like that. But then again when i was a kid the was no way in hell i would have ever even thought of talking to an adult like that.

this

My mother is a very sweet lady. If she heard about me speaking to a gray haired woman like that, she would have beat me with a razor strap until her arm got tired, then switched hands. I would then be apologizing to the lady, cleaning out the woman's rain gutters, cutting her grass, cleaning her toilets, painting her house, whatever, every weekend until I was eighteen.

I blame the parents, it is 100% the fault of the parents. It would have never occured to me to speak to an adult like that. I would have had to change my name and move to another country if I did something remotely similar.

Worst the IRS could do is take half I think.

FWIW She's getting compensated...

Not that this excuses it in any way. Last I heard it was up over $500k

The project was started to send her on an awesome vacation. Now at $539k. Maybe she'll get a nice retirement.

My Mom would have found me, told me how disappointed she was in me, then have me killed.

I smarted off to a teacher once and was sent to the Vice Principles office. Third grade. They called my Mom and told her two things could happen, a paddling or I could be suspended for the rest of the day.

She called in air strikes.

I may be stupid, but I am responsible for my stupidity.

I remember getting the paddle in 7th grade, (Private school). I was being a wise guy and the teacher asked if I wanted to go to the office, so I said, sure. I promptly found myself in the office, assuming the position and receiving the board of education. The board was pre-drilled with holes to reduce air drag and increase the speed of my beating. One hit was all it took and I realized I was out of line.

She is NOT being compensated. That is the generosity of some American people. Nothing will compensate for that abuse, except maybe the kids being taught respect and services to others. I doubt that will happen.

I think she should take the money, and move. We'd treat her far better in Texas.

The interesting thing is I don't recall a discussion (I was privy to the call) about what I did, only that the teacher felt my behavior wanting.

They only discussed the likely avenues to be explored based on my behavior, not guilt or how effing special I was.

The teacher said I was wrong. That was all that was required.

black_falcon 06-22-2012 12:12 PM

Think its bad now? Just imagine what this country will be like after a generation or two passes and this current crop of youth comes to fruition.

I remember those days. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

McLovin 06-22-2012 12:43 PM

I think what our parents "would have done to us" isn't really even the issue here.

I was far from an angel growing up, but I would have never, ever done that to an old lady, at any time in my childhood. (4th grade, 5th, 6th, 7th, whatever).

And it's not because I would have been afraid of what my parents would do. Even as a kid, I would have viewed ganging up on an defenseless old lady as pathetic. I broke a lot of rules as a kid, but never did anything like that.

+1...I didn't watch more than a few seconds of the video...too disgusting. I can't even conceive of doing such a thing and I probaby still wouldn't be able to sit down if my dad saw such behavior. Reminds me of what my 7th grade teacher used to say about not having any "home training".

It isn't so much a rule, as a convention. Too easy for subtle (and not so subtle) sarcasm to be missed in typing.

I'm going to have to think about this one before I make my comments. All I can say for now is that middle school kids are some of the meanest bastards in the country. This was true even in the '50's when I was in "jr. high." Students had a derogatory name for every teacher. I'm sure they heard it more than once.

The problem with school and most things beyond is that the common denominator prevails. The denominator has fallen to new lows.

johnco 06-22-2012 06:01 PM

we're not taught to be polite and respect your elders down in Cajun South Louisiana. it's in our dna

Danimal16 06-22-2012 08:23 PM

I remember the time Mr. Barnard knocked a POS kid out that invaded his class room and threatened him. Not a macho kind of guy was he, smart fair and tough as nails. The kid threw the first punch and that was it. The sound of his head bouncing off the floor is still burned in my memory. Kinda like a wooden ball on concrete.

unclebilly 06-22-2012 10:27 PM

In 10 - 12 years or less when these kids are old enough to enter the workforce, we will be F'd.

What is the world coming to?

Brian in VA 06-23-2012 03:48 AM

I think a lot of people have always been mean and stupid but now they've got phones with cameras and the interwebs to broadcast it.

Laneco 06-23-2012 05:27 AM

Every fight I ever got into when I was a kid centered around one person being picked on/harrassed/bullied by several others. It just pisses me off. I hate mean people, always have.

angela

Tobra 06-23-2012 11:27 AM

that is because mean people suck

aigel 06-23-2012 11:48 AM

The issue are the parents. In a working system, a bus monitor would report the kids as soon as she gets back to school. The parents would get a letter, the kids would be expelled for 3 days and would be disciplined at home. Apparently this mechanism isn't working - I believe the parents do not act - often there are broken families, joint custody etc., so none of the parents want to be the bad guy and deal with it.

There have always been bad apples like this in middle school and elsewhere. If a person is weak and down, it brings out the worst in a crowd. I have witnessed terrible stuff in school and that's quite a while ago ... often life catches up with the idiots. They'll end up with a ****ty or no job, their own broken family etc.

Can we put these kids in a cell with Sandusky alone for a year or two?
