My mother is a very sweet lady. If she heard about me speaking to a gray haired woman like that, she would have beat me with a razor strap until her arm got tired, then switched hands. I would then be apologizing to the lady, cleaning out the woman's rain gutters, cutting her grass, cleaning her toilets, painting her house, whatever, every weekend until I was eighteen. I blame the parents, it is 100% the fault of the parents. It would have never occured to me to speak to an adult like that. I would have had to change my name and move to another country if I did something remotely similar. Worst the IRS could do is take half I think. |
FWIW She's getting compensated...
http://www.webpronews.com/bullied-bus-monitor-receives-over-190k-in-donations-2012-06 Not that this excuses it in any way. Last I heard it was up over $500k The project was started to send her on an awesome vacation. Now at $539k. Maybe she'll get a nice retirement. |

I smarted off to a teacher once and was sent to the Vice Principles office. Third grade. They called my Mom and told her two things could happen, a paddling or I could be suspended for the rest of the day. She called in air strikes. I may be stupid, but I am responsible for my stupidity. |

I think she should take the money, and move. We'd treat her far better in Texas. |

They only discussed the likely avenues to be explored based on my behavior, not guilt or how effing special I was. The teacher said I was wrong. That was all that was required. |
Think its bad now? Just imagine what this country will be like after a generation or two passes and this current crop of youth comes to fruition.

I think what our parents "would have done to us" isn't really even the issue here.
I was far from an angel growing up, but I would have never, ever done that to an old lady, at any time in my childhood. (4th grade, 5th, 6th, 7th, whatever). And it's not because I would have been afraid of what my parents would do. Even as a kid, I would have viewed ganging up on an defenseless old lady as pathetic. I broke a lot of rules as a kid, but never did anything like that. |

I'm going to have to think about this one before I make my comments. All I can say for now is that middle school kids are some of the meanest bastards in the country. This was true even in the '50's when I was in "jr. high." Students had a derogatory name for every teacher. I'm sure they heard it more than once.
The problem with school and most things beyond is that the common denominator prevails. The denominator has fallen to new lows. |
we're not taught to be polite and respect your elders down in Cajun South Louisiana. it's in our dna

I remember the time Mr. Barnard knocked a POS kid out that invaded his class room and threatened him. Not a macho kind of guy was he, smart fair and tough as nails. The kid threw the first punch and that was it. The sound of his head bouncing off the floor is still burned in my memory. Kinda like a wooden ball on concrete.
