Please tell me about this national park!

Dinosaur National Monument - Dinosaur National Monument

I plan to be there this week. Is this a place that has roads that are OK for a 85 911? I don't want to walk around a lot in 100 degree heat. My wife will melt in those conditions.

Is it a place we have walk a lot or can we see the good spots on a day trip through the area? Any good motels in the area?

All good advice is welcome.

if they grade the road into Rainbow Park, then you could make it in a 911 during summer

how much mud and gravel does your definition of OK allow on your car?

I prefer paved roads. Only smooth rut free low traffic dirt roads for short distances.

Haven't been there in nearly 40 years so I'm not much help, all I remember was that I thought it was really cool.

Dinosaur Valley State Park — Texas Parks & Wildlife Department

Closer to you and it has some of the best tracks to be found in the world. I have not been in 30 years but I remember the roads as blacktop and the park offering lots of hiking.

ok - simple

go visit the working museum part (you can see them go after the rock with paint brushes)

then ask at Park/Monument HQ about the paved roads

They should have a map of the park on their web site, and it likely shows road types with warnings

I have not been there in years either, but it is a really nice place to visit and on my visits did not have too horrible a toruista load.

I was in the canyon and had forgotten the history, and thinking what a fabulous place to dam and destroy all the scenic beauty by drowning it. Then I realized it was the site of a historic fight over damming rivers...

So get down in the canyon if possible.

The website says they have shuttle busses to take folks all around the park and it looks like the visitor center is right off a state highway.
