Where for better weather?

As a born and raised Tennessean, I have grown to accept the hot, humid summers. The past few weeks have been brutal. Temps have been at or above 100 with only modest humidity. If the humidity was closer to normal (higher than now), I'd be ready to slit my wrists.

I'd like a refuge, a summer home, cottage, or whatever. I'm far more a mountain man than beach baby, so I'm thinking about Colorado. While the southwestern part of the state is breathtaking, I'm leaning more towards Colorado Springs or Pueblo.

I want a place where I can ride motorcycles and bicycles, camp, and fish. I'd also like a place that isn't a culinary wasteland. Partying is not high on my list.

If you were looking for a place to spend time in the summer, where would it be?

Jurgen

Lake Cle Elum. Meets all your criteria and then some. Perfect weather July, Aug and Sept....90 miles east of Seattle in the Mtns. Twice the sunny days Seattle gets.

It is very hot now in the Front Range(CO). I am thinking where do I need to go to cool off. YMMV

Somewhere in the CA central coastal region or between San Diego and San Clemente. Nice back roads and good food everywhere. Some rate the weather best on the planet. Some parts of the Mediterranean are rated as good as the San Diego County coast.

Expensive? You bet.

Believe it or not, the fingerlakes area in NY has some of the best weather in the summer time. In fact Canandaigua lake has the richest waterfront in the US, as it surpassed lake Tahoe about 5 years ago. But summer homes can be found on some of the other lakes and there is lots to do. Plus you can even eat the fish you catch!

My places in Monarch Beach, CA and Red Lodge, MT are both amazing during the summer months. In either location, 85 degrees would be considered unusually hot. That said.... stay away, we don't need anyone else here! And, get off my lawn!

Jurgen, you need to look at southern Montana. There are affordable prices in some locations, mainly very small towns that are not touristy, and as you can imagine, the recreation possibilities are endless.

I tell you, I really feel for people in most of the rest of the country. I can't stand extreme heat, it's even worse than cold to me. We've been having very mild weather in SoCal so far, (highs in 70s along the coast), but it can certainly get a lot hotter at times. And it's always hotter inland.

I'm flying to Colorado to pick up a car later this week, they have been getting slammed with a heat wave. Mid-high 90s in Denver and surrounding area, and of course I'll be driving through some 110deg schit on the way back.

God help me if the car or its A/C breaks down, I'll shoot myself. Colorado is one of my favorite places on earth and known for great weather but everywhere seems to be getting hotter and hotter in recent years, that's just a fact. Summer has become miserable in most of the U.S.A.

It's very hot here around this time, but then it will cool down late July for a nice mild Autumn, then winter will roll in around late October and will stay until April. It can be 100 deg here, and -10 a few months later. The part that I like is the sun, we get something like 340+ days a year.

Born/raised in Rochester. Was going to suggest this as well, primarily for the fishing. Some of the best musky fishing can be found in the finger lakes. Salmon and trout fishing on lake Ontario is very close.

While we do have decent fly fishing, if fly fishing is really your thing then stick to your original idea.

I also love both the adirondack and Catskills mountains.

Watkins Glenn is also close as are wineries and the scenery is beautiful

Of course In the winter I hate this area, so sorta makes half the year a waste of money to me

Pueblo is too hot and really Colo Springs is too, but just climb a few feet upwards towards Manitou Springs on 24, or higher and things look a lot better. The trade off is the higher up you go the more damage the sun will do to your skin.

Go to a park in Denver and everyone is slathering on sun screen spf 45. Yes, you have to be careful, unless the leathery face look suits you.

Boulder is nice, but pricey.

How about a pool?

Houston is nice, but far from ideal. Coastal areas are nice, like Cali or south Florida. Anyplace else that's great in the summer is going to suck in the winter.
