DOCTORS! USA doc..do you ask patients about guns?
i am embarrassed to even ask this..snopes says it is BS.
but on some hunting forums i frequent..they say doctors are asking patients if they have guns in their homes. like it is an official question on the forms!! i just had a series of doc visits..and i was not asked this. everyone says, they know a person asked..some say, they were personally asked..yada yada yada i did a quick search of PARF-land and saw nothing.. sorry..there could possibly be such thing as a "stupid question".

It's more the pediatricians that ask. Guns/kids/safety.

I saw it on a form once and wrote, "None of your damn business." They didn't say anything about it. My current doctor has a "no firearms" sign in the window, but that doesn't have the force of law.

I have never seen that question on a doctors forms. I do see a blank for social security number. I just leave that blank. One office said the had to have a number. I put down 555-55-5555. They accepted it.

That is going to be a state by state issue I suspect.

I don't remember my daughter's pediatrician asking about guns. They do ask about seat belts, the pool pool, sun screen, flossing, etc. Feels like a parenting exam.
I took my daughter to an urgent care center a couple of years ago... can't even remember why. I DO remember when they were asking her various questions they ended with, "Do you feel safe at home?"

For a year or so the Air Force was asking if you had guns at home on your yearly health assessment. If you said yes, they asked if they were locked up. If you said no, some random person who knew nothing about guns would try to lecture you.
I told the lady I didn't want to hear it and she said "why do people get so defensive about this everytime?" |

Here: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/arizona.pdf
Arizona has passed “Constitutional Carry.” That means anyone who can legally own/purchase a firearm and is 21 or older can carry it concealed without any type of permit/license. This new law becomes effective July 29, 2010. Those who wish to carry in Arizona without a permit/license from AZ or any other state can not carry in the places listed in the “Places Off Limits Even With a Permit’ section below. Arizona did not remove other restrictions in their law when they passed Constitutional Carry. If you choose to carry without a permit from Arizona or any other state you must also abide by the following restriction. 4-229. Licenses; Handguns; Posting of Notice A. A person with a permit issued pursuant to section 13-3112 may carry a concealed handgun on the premises of a licensee who is an on-sale retailer unless the licensee posts a sign that clearly prohibits the possession of weapons on the licensed premises. The sign shall conform to the following requirements: 1. Be posted in a conspicuous location accessible to the general public and immediately adjacent to the liquor license posted on the licensed premises. 2. Contain a pictogram that shows a firearm within a red circle and a diagonal red line across the firearm. 3. Contain the words, "no firearms allowed pursuant to A.R.S. section 4-229". B. A person shall not carry a firearm on the licensed premises of an on-sale retailer if the licensee has posted the notice prescribed in subsection A of this section. C. It is an affirmative defense to a violation of subsection B of this section if: 1. The person was not informed of the notice prescribed in subsection A of this section before the violation. |

every one has the right to exclude firearms from their own property
sounds like legion, does not believe in property rights -- or is too stoopid to know what that means |

New law in AZ prohibits employers from banning weapons in employees' cars on company property as long as the gun stays in the car. Old law lets anyone put a sign up, but it does not have the force of law unless an on-premise retailer of alcohol. IF - and that's a big IF - any property owner, sign or no sign, sees you're carrying and asks you to leave, you can only be cited for trespassing IF you refuse to leave. But then that's the law with or without a gun. And they have to ask you to leave before you can have committed trespassing. Try to find a case in AZ where this has happened. I have never heard of it. So yes, you can carry in the doctor's office and ignore their sign. If they see it, they will ask you to put it in the car. If you refuse, they'll probably just refuse to see you. If you make a fuss and they call the cops, you get a trespass cite. But again, that would happen without a gun if they asked to leave their property and you refused.

I should add that my doctor's office also has a sign saying all cell phones have to be turned off and to not wear any cologne or perfume. I'm pretty sure that one is ignored many times per day and they've never called the cops on anyone for it. They could ask anyone to leave for any reason and refusing to do so could result in a trespassing cite if you made a fuss about it.
A pizza place in the same strip mall serves beer, so their official, state-issued gunbusters sign has the force of law. But it's so faded from the sun that you'd just about never notice it unless you were looking for it, were from AZ and knew what the state-issued gunbusters signs looked like. They look like a cross between a 1911 and a Desert Eagle with a red circle and slash through it, so it's not a depiction of a remotely realistic gun. Pretty sure you'd get off with a warning on that one, since the law requires "proper notice" and allows you to walk into any business to see if it's posted inside. Trouble is, you can't see this sign from the inside and there's no other sign on the wall by the liquor license, as the law requires. Again, proper notice is required and that's a big grey area. I have never heard of a single case of someone getting in trouble for this and there are plenty of websites devoted to listing AZ businesses with gunbusters signs so gun folks can boycott them.
