We have now found the missing cornerstone of particle physics.
ok!!
Will all you pointy-headed types please elaborate in layman's terminology (or as best you're able) as to the significance and everyday relevance of this proposed (for now) discovery? |
Higgs Particle
Basically it is belived to be what make gravity "work" allowing molecules to form into solids. Without the Higgs particle/force/??? molecules would not slow down enough to form a mass.
or the thing that makes the math work out-
it sure is a porky lil' devil
So the particle that is responsible for mass has a mass itself -- I guess that makes sense. And if that makes sense then I suppose it would follow that the thing that causes mass would have a lot of it.
Will it cure cancer?
how many in a black audi wagon?
Is it faster than a well setup 944?
^ That's inconceivable!

It is a more significant step in that direction that you might realize. The breakthrough gives chemists (and after all, what is chemistry but physics) a tool that could allow direct "targeting" of atomic and molecular interactions that form the basis of the unwanted biochemical interactions that cause cancer cells to be created and multiply. This is not science fiction, as research institution are working on next generation medical treatments based more and more on the actual structure of matter. P-chem & O-chem have come a long way since I was in school. |
"hints of.." is still theoretical physics, back to the linear accelerator...
Common, do you think they would have said "we found jack" considering the time effort money that went into CeRn? |
I hope this leads to us actually getting transporters! I'm tired of having to drive and fly everywhere I want to go....
is this the thing that got all the catholics, (and that albino hit man) all hot and bothered in that demons and dragons movie (starring tom hanks)?

how many years until they get that sucka up to full power?
then we may know which of the 5 it found |
