110 12v power supply wiring questions
I have a 110 power supply that provides 12v power to a router.
I just want to power to the router with 12v The power supply has 2 wires a solid Black and a Black with White tracer Is the black with white trace the ground ? I want cut the power cord and just supplly 12v via the existing cord. Thanks

Not clear.
Do you want to eliminate the power supply and wire direct to a circuit or do you just want to lop off the plug that goes into the wall outlet and wire direct, keeping the power supply.

I think he wants to power the router by battery.
Red + and black - are typical for DC, although white is sometimes used for positive. If you have a volt meter, you can cut the cord from the power supply to the router, leaving a stub at the power supply. Strip the wires back, attack voltmeter and plug into wall to verify the polarity.

I want to chop off the 110 end just wire directly to a 12v circuit.
Just not sure which wire is which or if it makes a difference. Solid Black Black with White Tracer

Neither are we. You will need to check the polarity with a volt meter.

Cut the cord, meter the power supply side to see which is which.

You should also make sure that the 12V coming out of the power supply is DC and not AC if you are planning to use a 12V battery type source. Although unlikely, the power supply could simply be dropping the voltage down, not rectifying it.
As for polarity, as Red Beard and Radioactive mentioned, use a meter to determine the polarity out of the power supply. You might be able to do this before cutting the wires if there is an adapter plug that is used instead of wiring going directly to the router. Determine the polarity with the PS powered. Note which plug connection is plus and minus. After cutting the wires, Ohm out the wire to the plug and you should be able to tell which is plus vs. minus. Vin

AFAIK, don't get it reversed. There will be a diode and sometimes that puppy goes away when the power is reversed.
