Nurburgring going <broke>

BimmerFile » Archive » Nürburgring To Close Its Gates

Gonna file for bankruptcy? Top Gear’s James May popping Champagne?

I see my title was edited?

It was pretty mild in my opinion but thanks for making sure that this OT thread is now PC & compliant with your moral standards.

I need a drink.

BTW: TG with James May blasphemy and Clarkson wrecking the 911 for laughs is no longer good automotive entertainment. Show sucks.

Not good. That track was on the bucket list for a lot of people.

No kidding. One of the coolest things I've done. Hope some one can pull it together and make it work.

Well, maybe they can keep the F1 track. Maintaining the 14 mile beast has got to be a burden.

Yup, me included. I suspect the name recognition and history will keep it open, even if under new ownership.

This applies to the F1 circuit and entertainment complex... not the 'north loop'.
That is profitable.

The same commercial group owns both... so hopefully it can sell off the North loop and that can continue on the 'bucket list'...

We were there for the N24 race in May. It was EPIC. A few pics below, but the headline for us that we never realized how much the 24 hour race is viewed as a German event. Anybody else is welcome to come, but this is a German event. It isn't just a race that happens to take place in Germany. BMW and MBZ have huge signage, stands and hospitality. Audi has tons of signage and huge paddock presence. The fans don't just come to the race for kicks - they've been coming for 20+ years. The camp sites aren't just fans - they are comprised of neighbors and family that pack up from the towns (mostly in the west and around Koln) and descend as a group to camp in the same location as they always do. The F1 race may be better known on the international scene, but the 24h race is part of their fabric and tradition. I just can't see the Germans letting the 24h race go which bodes well for the north loop. If you want angst from Germans, ask about the Euro crisis and bailing out everybody else. If you want revolt, tell them that they won't be returning to the 24h race again next year.
