Have you got many false alerts and junk alerts when in the vicinity of new Audis?

I was on the road a 5:30 am last Tuesday, with nary another car on the road. I noticed a car overtaking me.... not going crazy fast... and the V1 started to ping, so I backed off the throttle a bit...

As the overtaking car got closer, the signal strength on the V1 increased and then started reporting multiple radar hit....So I dialed my speed to exactly the speed limit..

The car passed me (I now know it was an Audi A6)... as the Audi faded into the distance.. my V1 started to get quiet...

Are the active systems on the new cars effing with radar detector? The LED lights proximity sensors etc...

Or was ET messing with my mellow..

Is the V1 giving a Laser signal? If so, common...the tail lights and/or the back up detection systems set mine off. Usually it's a Caddy/GMC or a Beemer.

If you are getting X, K or Ka signals...then no, I have not gotten those.

BTW i posted this because the was the second time recently that my V1 lit up in the vicinity of an Audi

Beemers and Caddies give mine fits

I assume adaptive cruise control is sending a signal forward.

yep. V1 hates the LED lighting. Does it all the time.

Yup

I think I got my first Audi false alert sometime in the last 3-4 weeks (radio, not laser, can't remember what band). Laser false alerts from other vehicles are fairly common. Infinitis, usually the SUV, will give me laser alerts from behind because of the adaptive cruise. Mostly GM, but a few other vehicles will give me laser from the front due to their LED third tail lights. Over the years, I have gotten a few false alerts in the radio spectrum due to various vehicles, and in at least a few cases, it was because of a radar detector in the other car.

IIRC, the Audi alert the other day was quite strong when the guy was behind me. It was a full strength alert for a while. Very irritating.

I've even gotten laser false alerts from neon signs once or twice when I pulled up very close to a store that had them and a handful of times from the sun being low in the sky shining through a wet windshield. I have to assume some of the water drops acted like a prism and triggered the correct wavelength or something.

My cell phone will set off my V1 when it loses signal. Kinda a PITA when driving in the mountains.

I'm surrounded by Audi's & Caddies..
in traffic is were I would want it to WORK..
I'm seldom in the middle of BF Egypt...

Whatever. It absolutely works. It's not a billion dollar military grade system that tells you who what where. It alerts you that there could be an issue. Then it's up to you to be the other 70% of the equation, but it has saved my butt many, many times. The most recent was about 30 mins ago.

ErVikingo 07-07-2012 06:43 AM

Yep. Drove miles with mine beeping, a friend was behind us in his Audi...

Joe Bob 07-07-2012 06:44 AM

Ya know they have a silence key and an off switch.....

Actually, the mute button isn't a silence button. There is a volume knob for the mute volume. But there is an off knob. ;)

Joe Bob 07-07-2012 07:15 AM

It is if'n you turn the ring around the mute button all the way to the left.....just sayin'.....

Mine has never left that position since install.

masraum 07-07-2012 07:17 AM

Ah, I like to still barely hear it after I mute. I didn't know it would go that low.

Joe Bob 07-07-2012 07:20 AM

My guess is that you don't have a nagging wife as a co-pilot?

ErVikingo 07-07-2012 07:30 AM

Ha ha, I know they do and I did. But everytime we got cars in between the temp mute resets....

At first I thought that there was a cop driving ahead of us and I was getting bounced signals.

campbellcj 07-07-2012 08:19 AM

I have never noticed this with Audis; however, Infinitis and certain Chevys do it.

TimT 07-07-2012 05:18 PM

Today I shared the road with a new Audi A6 for a few miles, not a peep from the V1

Maybe the driver of that car did not have things turned on that broadcast, or did not buy into those options...

I wonder if with software updates, the V1 can filter these new sources of noise... If the hardware is capable...

Funny thing is don't recall ever getting falses when in proximity to Inifinitis , Beemers, Chebbys etc...

The Audi passing me that day had the V1 lit up every warning, arrow, tone etc was happening...

I think I'll email Valentine and see what they have to say.
