Looking forward to it. While I liked the Dogtown doc, the Bones Brigade guys were "it". "search for animal chin" was an all-time classic video.

Sweet, can't wait as my Skating days were 70s & 80s (but I still have a G&S to play on)
I met Peralta, Hester, and all the big names of the 70s back then at Kona.
Jax Beach was home to Dog-Town East Coast and some of my buddies were part of that. They still remain close to their roots...

So far have just seen the teasers too look forward to seeing the film. Dog Town as a documentary was engaging & well presented. The impact of the Z Boys at the time was huge opening whole new dimensions in skating banks, ditches, pools etc.. The Bones Brigade was an evolution of that. I still have a quiver of skates from G&S, Dog Town, BDS that I roll on now & then.

When I first saw this thread, I read the title as "Bridgett Jones Documentary", and skipped right over it.

Instead we got something even better: out-of-shape middle-aged guys with their shirts off.

Yea,, but both on those guys can still skate with the best, and one of them is a true pioneer that was a major part of Dog Town and was considered the best skater of the bunch..

Its funny how these movies elevate friggin skate boarding into some kind of mythical, Zen, Budda, rock and roll fantasy legend.

I grow up in the 70's and 80's and skate boarding doesn't even register as a activity. Of course there was the occasional getting pulled by a bike, car or motorcycle story using a skate board, but that was usually listed under stupid sh&& you did in some state of boredom or induced stupor.

Well, in Cali & FL., we surfed & skated and for many, it was/is a way of life. Hard to fault someone like Stacy Peralta & the rest of the Z-Boys who took a fad to not only the next level, but created a whole new industry that is still strong today...

I'm not knocking the activity , especially not making money and picking up chicks with a recreational activity. Its just skating boarding was a very local phenomena, outside of CA and FL you would not find too many kids in the fly over states discussing the life styles of rich and famous skate boarders.

Tony hawk and Rodney Mullen are still in great shape and skating as well as anyone and they are at least 5 years older than me.

You couldn't be more wrong. In the early 80s, because of mqgazines like thrasher and transworld, we in upstate new York obsessed about skating as did other kids all over the country. Those were the best days of my life. The only advantage Cali had beside year round weather, we're the skate parks and natural objects like drainage ditches.

I grew tired of skateboarding around age 12 or 14. I have a son who is 24 who still lives for it. He is totally dependent on his mother. Arrested development? Enabler? Yeah, those words come into play.

the urethane wheel wasnt even invented until 1972 so its no wonder you lost interest. the skateboards and gear from the late 70s till today are far more advanced and capable than from pre-1972.

its like comparing modern ski/bindings/boots to the skis of the 1960s

if your son "lived for" surfing or skiing would you attitude still be the same?

hope i die before i get old

If he expected his mother to pay for it - then yes. It's more of a maturity/ self sufficiency thing than a recreational focus thing for me. All of his friends who skate mooch off of their parents also. That did not happen back in the 60s when you were in your mid 20s. Unless you had issues of course, then ...well then...what can you do?

then i would have a problem with it too. i wouldnt blame skateboarding for a 20-somethings inability to pay for his own hobbies and toys. skateboards only cost $150 so it disturbs me to hear a bunch of 20 somethings cant pay for something as simple as that.

is this your kid and his buddies?

"is this your kid and his buddies?"
No - they all lost their licenses to drug violations and their mothers and or fathers bailed them out.
Mommy drives him to work ( the few who's mothers found them a job) and to the skate park.
She does not have the mental ability to understand what an enabler is. But she has great boobs. What can I do?
