How on earth did that threat work?

Over the weekend, we had an impromptu get together for some beers are my place. One of the guys his wife is in Spain and another brought his wife, who mostly talked with mine.

After a bit, we invited another guy 2 doors down. His wife was working night-shift (Trauma Nurse), so he ended up taking his daughter (5 yrs old) as well.

The daughter is maybe bi-polar, or something. She is terribly shy. But then like flipping a light switch, is not longer shy, bouncing off the walls, etc. When she reached the stage of jumping from one sofa to the next, and hitting my wife in the face with pillows, my wife had enough.

"If you don't start to behave, I'm going to give you soup!"

How on earth did that threat work?

Does her grandmother make really bad soup? Why did my wife even come up with saying that?

But it worked.

Anyone else with an unusual and successful way of controlling the kids?

hmmm...maybe you take the hot soup and throw it onto the offending kid? dunno..

I should add, that this was fantastic behavior compared to my middle sister's hell-spawn. He did virtually the same thing, except naked. This was about 3 weeks ago. And yep, he is 5 years old.

I related this story to my eldest sister last night. She said the same exact thing happened in April when she was baby sitting for middle sis. And to think this kid is going into Kindergarten in 6-8 weeks...

Since they live near San Francisco, I wonder if the kid does this in school if they will send him to the counselor, or if they will just say he is just expressing himself?

Sounds like normal behavior for a 5 year old in the evning. They get tired and act up. Mine does.

I'm unclear though. Did she get the soup or shape up without it.

And they left not long after that...
