Man, what a great guy. I worked with him a couple times, but actually got to sit and really talk with him when I saw him at Jerry's Deli. The most approachable "star" you could ever meet. One of the true old Hollywood stars, not many left.

This from the article says it all about him ".....His only concession to age had come at 88 when he gave up driving the bus he would take around the country, stopping to talk with local folks along the way."

RIP Ernie, you were a great one.

For all the tough guys he would play (Fatso Judson in HTE) he was one sweet guy...who admitted on a Talk Show a few years back that pulling on the Wnaker is what kept him spry.

The world is a bit lessor of a place without a guy like Ernie (Mchale) . May God Bless you

Now the only guy that comes to mind who is still kickin is Kirk Douglas who also is 95. I know I have missed others of that generation of stars

Mickey Rooney (Andy Hardy) and Shirley Temple are still around..

Yup, he was one for the ages. Truly talented and had a huge heart. Great guy. Did you know that he voiced Mermaid Man on Spongebob? And Tim Conway voiced Barnacle Boy. I love watching those episodes.

God speed, Ernie.

Loved him in Emperor of the North.

An actor at the top of his craft who was every bit the equal of the other top-shelf players in that film.

RIP.

As he was Capt. Binghamton's nemesis, I regard him as the role model for my disregard and dismissal of crap from Authority Figures. RIP Ernest, you did well.

He will be greatly missed around here. Back in the 70s he told Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show how that one of his regrets was that he always wanted to be a clown. The gentleman directing the annual Great Circus Parade here in Milwaukee contacted him and asked him to be the lead clown in the parade and he had done it ever since. Ill never forget my Dad taking me to the parade as a kid to see him (I was also a big fan of Airwolf back then).
Milwaukee Loved Ernie and He loved Milwaukee.

That's where I saw him first. Great guy, great movie! That brought home what Pearl Harbor must have felt like around December 7, 1941.

RIP Ernie, you were a great one.
I was retrofitting a truck stop in Federal Way Wa when he pulled in with his wife. They stayed over an hour greeting everyone & signing autographs. I didn't bother them, but was close by. I was amazed at how accommodating & friendly they were. Seemed like wonderful folks. RIP
