Thumbs up Slate Tile porch

Turned an old brick and concrete porch into something new!

What do you think?

Does it meet code?

Nice work - I do not like the way the slate looks however. I am sure the owner picked it though, so not your problem!

Thanks!

Funny thing happened.
As I was doing the final touches on the grout, the owner's son came out and asked if the tan grout would turn gray...?

I said no, it would be the color of the sample on the bag of grout that they purchased and provided, along with the slate tile.

He was kind of miffed.
I had to explain that "someone" had to look at a grout sample and request the warehouse man to bring it out for them, as this was not bought from a self service facility.

He said she wanted gray...

She never brought it up, was happy and complimented the work...And paid me.

The hand rail was an old white paint.
I wire wheeled and sanded it.
Use Rustoleum copper 'hammered' finish paint.

Looks good. We would like to slate our porch but I suspect winter abuse would not be kind to it.

It should hold up well, as it is 'made' outside

Use high quality freeze/thaw stable thinset.

I have heard that there was an adhesive solution but I wonder more about shoveling abuse & ice removal etc. Ideally we (my wife) would like nice decorative Euro ceramic tiles but they are far too slippery for our space.

Hmmm. I could use a heated indoor water tank in the crawl space & circulate outdoors. Hmmm.

It looks great KT...nice job, man! Love the progress photos - really gives one a sense of the project flow.

I was working on one of my landscape jobs today and it's coming together nicely - I thought about posting a couple pics here. Maybe I will! (not on your thread of course..ha ha)

Nice work.

A suggestion: maybe try some antiquing type finish over the copper paint. A mild version of verdegre would compliment the stone.

That looks great. I love the copper look. Great choice of materials all around.
