Appliance Opinions?
I'm spec'ing out the new house. I like GE Monogram but I'm looking at Jenn Aire and Wolf/Sub Zero options too.
First impression is not to go into Wolf as they erode into the budget pretty fast. Any opinions? Looking at separate freezer and refrigerator, 2 dishwashers, warming drawer, double oven, beverage center, hood (island type), ice maker + microwave. Also, an in counter, water purification/cooler (is there such a thing?)

My parents re-did the kitchen at the main house about 5 years ago with all Kitchen Aid. We just finished a remodel at the lake house and again Kitchen Aid was done across the board. They seem pretty happy.

I have been REALLY liking all Samsung Fridges that I have seen. It doesn't hurt that I have had great success with Samsung tv's.

From three households in the family I would stay away from anything GE.

Most of all ranges are made in the same factories. I bought a Jenn-Air 48" range from a place going ot of biz. The only issue that I've found was that the ovens are in need of calibration but it was covered under warranty. The other thing that was a problem in learning the oven was that the doors need to be pushed shut in order for the ovens to come up to temp.
If you buy a range with an electric griddle do have your electrician wire the range on it's own circuit. At first mine was added to the reffrigerator and it would blow 20 amp breakers. I bought the matching hood. The range list at $7,300 and got it for $4,800 OTD and the hood is $1900 got it for $700 IF your buying a BIG range my word of advice is to pay for delivery. I had a time problem where I didn't have the house ready so I had the range delivered to my warehouse. 3 months later I had it moved to the home. Problem was during one of the two moves a gas line got crushed and it took forever to get the right part # for the line. Their phone people couldn't even look it up. The lower kick panel got bent as well on the lift gates diamond plate. I don't know if mover 1 or 2 did it so I had to pay for it. I was expecting a $200 bill. Sears appliance center was $37!!!!! One of the brands that I looked at is 48 6-Burner, Electric Ovens, Self-Clean | Bertazzoni The cool thing about this range is that theres less things to go wrong. I would have bought the gas ovens over the electric as well. I just copied the electric. The Fridge I bought is a Samsung and it has great reviews. ![]() ![]()

I went with GE Mongram equipment. Lots of it in our kitchen. Its crap. They leak or quit working. From fridge to freezer to microwave. Do something else. Called for warranty once and they wanted something 80.00 to show up. It's crap I tell ya-with a big price.

Don't skimp. We went with Wolf and Sub Zero. Look for discontinued end of year models you can save big $. Go to distributors not retail outlets. It will pay off in the end- they last for decades and will pay off if you sell your house too. Our "old" (20 year old) Sub Zero fridge is in the laundry room. Still going strong.
I deeply regret having left my 60" Wolf range in the old house and am "putting up" with a Wolf cook top (20 years old) in the new one. But that range- the centerpiece of a remodeled kitchen- sold that house at top dollar. It sold in two days in a severely depressed DC market at more than our asking price. In appliances you do get what you pay for. Besides, friends don't let friends buy GE. |

I did kitchen aid when I did mine a 5 years ago. I would not do kitchen aid again. They still work but the displays on both the microwave and the refrigerator had issues within months. The light in the oven quit working about 3 years in.

As you are buying a whole lota stuff you may get a particuarly good bulk discount deal and could consider Miele appliances. Or Bosch.

There's Kitchen then there's KITCHEN AID. Their top end stuff is solid, but no its no Wolf. Sub Zero is a great ref. Buy last years is correct. I just picked up a set of ref and freezer (separate units), last years model for a current client for a little over 13K. I push another future client (they are next in line) into buying another set of the same units for their kitchen remod. It is a smoking deal. Normally it would have cost 17k. Bosch(very good) or Miele dish washer are best IMO. DCS makes a great range or cook top. Thermador makes great stuff also.

+1 on GE being garbage. I would cook over a fire and drink warm beer before buying any of their sorry excuses for appliances again.

You sure you want one of those? If something goes bad, you will be living off the BBQ for a while. Not a bad thing IMO. Get a Jade if you like that big heavy commercial look. Personally I get a Wolf. If not, find an old one and restore it or rebuilt it.

I'm pissed. My 15 month old Whirlpool washer is now sounding like an aircraft spooling up for take off. Yep, it needs a bearing, 3 months out of warranty.

I'm reading up on ranges too, good timing. Looking for a 36-48" range to run on propane. The Wolf R486G looks great w/ 2 ovens, but $$$. Ouch. Curious on burner configuration. I'm thinking 6 burners with a griddle. Never had a build in griddle before, PITA to clean? Useful?
Seems no matter what brand I read about there horror stories and diehard fans. Sure would like to save some $$ though. Thanks |

when my parent closed the restaurant..they had an old WOLF griddle top appliance. i wanted it bad, but couldnt run back to texas to pick it up. i would have converted it back to a stovetop. those commercial stoves burn alot of fuel just for the pilot light. i like the color options for the AGA. i havent read any reviews yet..
