Bluetoot hands free / radio / CD upgrade for 01 Sequoia?

All,

I am not much of an audiophile but do go on long road trips where it is nice to have a good radio and talk on the phone.

The factory radio / 6 CD change unit gave up the ghost in my 2001 Sequoia (the CD portion). First I looked at replacement factory units but they run >$200.

I would really like to have hands free bluetooth so I can talk on the cell in the car without a plug in my ear etc. CA allows cells hands-free only.

Who makes a good radio unit that fits the bigger factory slot and a bluetooth that works properly? I don't need a CD changer any more but a CD would be nice along with hookup for an Ipod / mp3 player.

Is this a reasonable unit? Would it do what I need? Any other recommendations?

Again, my requirements:
- Hands free bluetooth
- CD
- MP3 hookup
- optional but nice: upgrade to satelite radio possible.

Thanks!!!

G

Go to;

Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras

Put in the male/model/year of your car and select the options you want, they will give you a list of what will fit your dash.

If you are going to do this yourself I highly recommend buying from them, they will include all the brackets and adapters (very important because most OEM radios have a plug-in connector from the wiring harness to the back of the radio, you will be doing a of of cutting and splicing if you don't get this adapter).

Oh, and I talked with a guy at car/audio shop and he said the Dual units were low quality... but that may be because he was trying to sell me a more expensive unit... still, I would go with a name brand... Sony, Pioneer, JVC all make good units.

See if there is a Grom unit for your vehicle.

Here, I did the google for you.

I have a grooming my miata. I don't have the BT capable version because I got minebeforethat was an option, but it has worked well for me for what it does.

scottmandue - great site, I will likely shop with them. I like places that do the legwork for you, and supply the entire kit.

I would NEVER have someone install a stereo in my car. I have dealt with too many "professional" installations paid for by the PO that completely effed up the wiring of not only the stereo but also the rest of the car.

Steve - thanks, but my old radio is non-functional in the CD department and I'd like to fix that. I realize I could rip CDs and then play them, but that doesn't help if I want to grab something short notice out of the shelf.

G

this is the unit I installed in our 2004 Sequoia, it works great! I am very happy with it. The bluetooth works well and it has full ipod control.
