Internet Cafe Robbery, Tables Turned

Looks like concealed carry won out in this showdown...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wZNC2VwyaPU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

OCALA, FLA. (AP) — Authorities in central Florida say two men were trying to rob an Internet cafe when a 71-year-old patron began shooting his own gun, wounding the suspects.

Surveillance video shows two masked men entering the Palms Internet Cafe around 10 p.m. Friday. The Ocala Star-Banner ( Charges unlikely against man who shot robbers | Ocala.com) reports one pointed a gun at customers while the other swung a baseball bat.

The video shows patron Samuel Williams pulling a handgun and shooting. He continues firing while the suspects fall over each other as they run out the door.

Nineteen-year-olds Duwayne Henderson and Davis Dawkins were later arrested and face attempted armed robbery with a firearm and criminal mischief charges. Both posted bail and were released.

Williams has a concealed weapons permit. Bill Gladson of the Marion County State Attorney's Office says the shooting appears justified.

Hmm, he should pack a bigger caliber.

Guess he was afraid they'd make him miss the early bird diner special.

VINMAN 07-18-2012 09:16 AM

Major props to the old guy! Warms my heart.:)

Am I a bad person for thinking the same thing?

They are lucky my 82 year-old father wasn't pulling the trigger. Korea and 'Nam and a .45 he used in both.

Mess with an old man's internet, $hit's coming down range.

Moral of the story: There are consequences for your actions - especially if your actions are attempted armed robbery.

Unfortunately, the heat here in Fl (this happened about 30 miles south of me) makes a big impact on what you can conceal...

Not in my opinion.

What we see is one of the three possible scenarios.

Perp turns and runs (then lawyers up and sues you)

Perp returns fire and that could get ugly, innocent bystanders get hurt who then lawyer up and sue you.

Perp drops and no longer presents a threat which is my preference.

speeder 07-18-2012 10:57 AM

Released on bail??? Someone needs to finish the job on that trash.

dhoward 07-18-2012 11:13 AM

They obviously come from a disadvantaged upbringing. A little more compassion, please.

What a polite way to say that:D

They left a lot faster than they entered.
It looked to me like his choice of firearm was just fine, what more could you ask?

Props to grandpa!!

BlueSkyJaunte 07-18-2012 01:02 PM

So it would seem .380 doesn't have much stopping power, but it has a hell of a lot of scamper power.

Way to go, Grampaw!

Laneco 07-18-2012 01:13 PM

Pretty sure at least one of them needed a change of man-panties afterward!

Absolutely hilarious watching them fall over each other trying to get away. All I could think of when I watched this was "Who da beyotch now?"

gatotom 07-18-2012 01:25 PM

That is totally funny, those punks now will cry foul play on the old guy. Don't you know robbers have rights.

I know I probably got this story all messed up but I heard about some electrician that got robbed so many times in his house that he wired all his aluminum window frames with 220v and one night he was watching tv and watched someone try to break in only to be lite up like a christmas tree. He got sued by the would be robber for ruining him for life.

kimlangley7 07-18-2012 01:28 PM

Massive Bravo Zulu to "gramps"... well done.... I tend to agree that packing a M1911 and the job would have been complete there at the scene.... I love the segment where the perps were scampering about like girly-pimps... bet ya they look just like obamas son

stomachmonkey 07-18-2012 01:30 PM

At least he had the wits about him to not follow them out of the store and continue shooting or he may have found himself in trouble.

Yep. You have to be careful not to get too caught up in the moment when this stuff happens.

It means that kimlangley is a ****.

speeder 07-18-2012 02:01 PM

And I finally watched the video, definitely too small caliber. That's a squirrel gun.

regency 07-18-2012 03:17 PM

Did he shoot 5 times or 6? Well, in all the confusion I kinda lost track myself......

azasadny 07-18-2012 03:31 PM

Excellent! Too bad the criminals were only wounded...

Rusty Heap 07-18-2012 03:40 PM

............while I applaud Grandpa for stepping out from the back row..........

for 1/2 - 1 second if you look close to the video one of the robbers had him in his sights with gun pointed at Gramps, and Mr Bad Guy with another 500 milli-seconds or with an itchy trigger finger could of also made this story a total different twist.

Don't get me wrong, Great for Gramps, but still getting killed over an "internet cafe" robbery(seems more like video slots, but who knows)........is a whole 'nother story.

If your life is threatened heck yah drop Mr Bad Guy, but Gramps came out of the back row and put himself in the line of fire.

Discuss.

No, it means kimlangley made a reference to Trayvon Martin

The elderly gentleman's wife was there apparently, and he did not want her hurt.

How do these guys get out on bail? Clearly they are a threat to the community. I bet their mothers say they are nice kids that would never hurt anyone.

Jim Bremner 07-18-2012 03:49 PM

Shot placement. even if he had a 10mm the thugs would have lived where the shots hit.

The kid with the baseball bat worked there till they canned him.

gshase 07-18-2012 04:07 PM

In my eyes Gramps Is SIERRA HOTEL X100

So can I drill you with a .380 from about 8 feet away then? I mean..it's just a squirrel gun, right? SmileWavy

Bill Douglas 07-19-2012 01:59 AM

Maybe the two 19 year olds had fake guns. That would explain why they didn't return fire, and why they got bail (not an armed robbery).

onewhippedpuppy 07-19-2012 04:03 AM

Gramps does a good job keeping his cool, kudos to him.

Using a fake gun is no lesser crime in the US.

Well, he shot them several times from close range and they didn't die, so I'm guessing this is not the weapon you'd want to take into the battlefield with you. If you hit someone in the heart or the brain or a major artery they are going to die I guess, but not before emptying their weapon into your neck. No thanks on that piece.

And FWIW, I own an old .32 SA pistol that is very cool but I consider it a "poker gun".

Rick Lee 07-19-2012 07:38 AM

I'm just not a .380 guy. If James Bond had really carried one of those, he'd have been dead before the second movie. A few yrs. ago that ammo was insanely expensive. Not sure if that's still the case. But those guns tend to have some kick too because they're made so small. Plenty of very concealable, easier-to-shoot calibers with more stopping power out there. I don't go below .40 for carry duty, except on rare occasions with a 9x18.

vash 07-19-2012 07:41 AM

i think any caliber you can shoot comfortably and reliably is a good round.

that old man probably was pretty comfy with that small pistol. whipping out a .45 is dramatic, and more effective..but not if he cant shoot it.

kudos to gramps. there is no questioning his ability to shoot at a live human. he didnt even hesitate.

krystar 07-19-2012 07:51 AM

attempted robbery with a bb gun is still an aggravated robbery with firearm charge.

if it looks like a gun and you were using it as a gun and the people you pointed it at thought it was a gun, it's a gun.

i had a kid try to rob me in parking lot with a bb gun. he still got charged as if the thing was a real gun.
