That's still better than the douche who used to pitch in our town (and will likely miss out on the Hall of Fame due to steroid accusations).

He got comped at the most expensive course in town. Then grabbed a couple of golf shirts from the Pro Shop. And left without paying for them....

cairns 07-19-2012 09:52 AM

You screwed up. You know you did or you wouldn't be asking.

First, if you're there with somebody and you didn't call him on what you thought was wrong you're a coward.

Second, what he tips is his business, not yours.

Third, the girl was happy getting her picture taken; she didn't ask for a tip.

If you felt so bad about it you should have tipped her more and made it a positive reaction rather than a negative one. Instead you went public and embarrased yourself and the club.

SiberianDVM 07-19-2012 10:02 AM

I'm a 1% -er here on this issue; won't be the first or last time.

I think the professional athlete in question is used to being feted and compted everywhere he goes. Tt's probably been that way since he was in high school, and this might be the 1st time somebody called him on it. Good on you.

So the little feller had his feeling hurt and now threatens to move his "charity" golf tourney that he and his buds play for free? So be it. I'd love to know just how much and to whom that "charity" money goes.

One of the big things wrong in the world is how much money is paid to entertainers and that includes pro atheletes. I have no idea who this particular guy is, but he sounds like he is related to Eldrick Woods, another big tipper.

fcuk..i just drank coffee into my nasal passages..ahhahahhahaha.

honestly, plumber man..you violated some man-law even asking the young lady about the tip. there is a term in cantonese..spell phonetically, "baat poa"..loosely translated, it refers to a woman that is a busy body. it truly was none of your business.

you stated in your original post how you were not fascinated by his fame or wealth yet you still asked the cutie..

if you saw a janitor playing a round..would you have asked if he tipped? you apparently ARE fascinated.

sorry.

I think tipping is expected.

I also think it's a nice thing to do.

I am a pretty good tipper.

But I would never call someone out for not tipping.

Cart girl may learn an important lesson about discretion, Reed gets called out for being a tightass & the OP gets ripped for asking an opinion here. Some high & mighty folks around here. Celebrity bashing is good sport.

I had a unfriendly encounter with Ken Griffey Jr on a golf course that changed my mind about entertainers. I wouldn't have posted the tweet, I try to avoid pissing matches on the web, but don't consider the tweet wrong. I don't like getting ripped here & that's why I often don't push "Submit Reply". Glass houses, if I rip someone for what I percieve stupidity, chances are I'll do something dumber by days end.

There's stories about Joe Dimaggio and how cheap he was. If invited to play in a golf tournament, he would say that he didn't own any clubs or shoes. They would comp him a set.

He'd call the Yankee front office from his home in San fran and say he was in NY and needed 4 tickets to the game. he'd send a runner over to pick them up and scalp them. When the 1989 San Francisco quake struck, they said he had over 50 set of golf clubs and shoes in his garage and bags of cash from the ticket scalping.

Some athletes were born and raised poor and can't shake being cheap.Really nobody's business but theirs.

vash 07-19-2012 10:47 AM

i wont even call out the person in my party, if he/she is a crap tipper.

i may slip some additional cash on the table afterwards..but i wont announce it.

I did this very thing Yesterday. Uncle insisted on paying the tip that came up far short of 15%. The service was wonderful so I slipped in a ten as we all walked out. My son seen it and thats what counts.

plumb4u2 07-19-2012 01:17 PM

Okay so I'm taking an internet bashing on this one...Its cool I started it

I will make a couple comments

I have been a member of this club for 9 yrs and ALL the staff love me and my wife and 5 yr old twins
We all treat each other as family at this club with hugs and kisses every time we are there

to those that say I did this cause I want Betsy is absolutely ridiculous. Betsy is a friend of mine, my wife's and my kids

I am not a wealthy person, I work hard and make an honest living and for that I get to do things that I enjoy like playing golf 3 times a week

I tip at or over 20% which I feel is or should be standard for good service, plus my Wife gives gifts to all the staff at Christmas time

Mr. Vash if you read my post I did NOT ask her about the tip my playing partner did
And how can you be in ALL of these athletes when all you hear about is the steroids, dog fighting, stabbings ect.

My point to all this is that these guys would be playing sports for $50k a year if it wasn't for US the fans how pay stupid amounts of money to watch them

So I guess I can end it here

for all the haters sorry I got you upset

for the couple supporters thanks for thinking the same way myself and all my friends where thinking

Tobra 07-19-2012 01:30 PM

The only reason I would not have done it would have been over concern about repercussions to the cart girl. I would have probably given her some dough and made a comment about the riff raff jocks they let come around the club.

If this Reed guy were to take this charity deal elsewhere, he is not only cheap and without class, but a petty, petulant child to boot.

mossguy 07-19-2012 01:30 PM

I am surprised that you would call people who disagree with you "haters"!

aigel 07-19-2012 01:31 PM

Did you ask for input expecting everyone posting kudos on the job well done? Nobody is a "hater" here - this forum is very mature if you compare it to any other discussion group on the internet. I take advice I get here very seriously. If 95% of the people go through the trouble posting a response and think your behavior was out of line, it probably was. Even Speeder isn't on your side and he usually b-slaps people and chases down cars if folks fall out of line. ;)

You need to grow up, IMHO and the best way to start is to self-reflect and admit when you effed up. I would go out of my way to apologize to the club manager for starters, and I would also consider apologizing to the bad tipper via "Twitter".

Good Luck - keep us posted!

the title of this thread ASKED for opinions!! this is very funny..

i dont belong to a country club..i understand the climate at one. sounds like a good time!!

Joe Bob 07-19-2012 02:13 PM

I would have done it if it could have been anonymously. Too much chance that it would bite me in the ass otherwise.

I don't belong to a country club for a number of reasons. Most of those reasons have a pulse...

cairns 07-19-2012 02:21 PM

No one's hating. If you didn't want the opinions you shouldn't have asked. And just because the football player is acting like a jerk (and he is) doesn't mean you should.

I'm good with the tweet.

Agree with Shaun.

I don't know all the circumstances and neither does anyone else here so I'll leave it at that.

Oh one more thing.....that DOUCHE Ed Reed couldn't carry Peyton's jock strap! :):D:)

speeder 07-19-2012 04:14 PM

It's "douche".

speeder 07-19-2012 04:23 PM

When I started reading this thread, I thought it was on its way to the OP confronting the big, rude jock on the golf course or in the clubhouse.

But no. He "tweeted" about it. Anonymously and to a million people other than the jock.

I dunno. In my world, if you don't have the nads to confront a stranger in public about their behavior ,(or to be fair--if it's simply not a good idea), you just let it shine.

If you wanted to see some back bone, you should have seen my old GF tell OJ where to go on the golf course a few years back.

azasadny 07-19-2012 04:39 PM

You should have talked to him in person if his "no tipping" bothered you that much. Tweeting is for kids...

Baz 07-19-2012 05:11 PM

Guys.....if I read the account correctly.....Reed was gone by the time he heard the tip/no tip info...NLA to confront in person. Tweeting was the next available option, I guess.

I'm not a big fan of tweeting understand but those are the facts.

Thanks for the spell check Denis - I stand corrected. SmileWavy

Wow, a Pelican first. Never heard the term baat pau used around here, before. :D Very funny.

What is tweeting? Can anybody do it?

speeder 07-19-2012 09:46 PM

Yes. And it's proven everyday.

9dreizig 07-19-2012 10:05 PM

I think it was ok,, one of my pet peeves' is cheap tippers.. the fact that the guy is loaded and was comped AND the cart girls make next to nothing makes it ok.. Maybe next time he'll think 2x before he stiffs someone else. .
Not sure I would have tweeted,, but I don't know how to tweet... You're ok in my book..
Hey Plumb we've got a couple of openings for my nieces memorial golf tourney in Ellicott City on Monday (benefits suicide prevention),, want to play ??

sammyg2 07-20-2012 07:13 AM

You did wrong. First, it's none of your bidness. It's his money, not yours, what he does with it does not involve you.
Secondly, a tweet? Serial? Are you a teenage girl? ;)

Serious question: would you have said to his face what you said in the tweet? If not you shouldn't have sent it.

Where are you going to hold your charity event this year?

sammyg2 07-20-2012 07:24 AM

BTW if you were really curious you could have done some research:
RAVENS: Ed Reed to hold charity golf tournament - Carroll County Times: Ravens

Our Mission

The Ed Reed Foundation is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit public charity focused on helping, improving and expanding the lives of our nation's youth. Specifically, focusing on children of lesser means who just need an opportunity to see how truly special and successful they are capable of being.

If I were a pro athlete I'd have a hard time being nice and courteous to all the douche-leaches trying to pretend to be somebody by latching onto my fame.

Can I have a picture with you so I can pretend I know someone successful?
My oldest brother was a pro athlete and although his career was cut short due to injury, he told me all about the leaches and how they were just thinking about themselves, basically like walking up to a stranger and saying gimmee gimmee and as an athlete you had to put up with it.

The local Putt-Putt.

You're not invited.

But maybe you can buy the picture from Betsy so she'll get something worthwhile out of the deal, and you can put it up on your wall of homage for "pro athletes".
