Opinions on if I did the wrong thing?
 

So this past Sunday I'm playing golf as I do every Sun and who's playing in front of us but Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens.
Let me start by saying I am not impressed by these stars I could really care less about them and their money. There are several Pro athletes at my club, Reed is not one of them

So here it goes

He is on 10th hole as we are starting on 1st

My group gets to 14 and here comes our cart girl Betsy (who is very attractive) My buddy Tim says to her "so what kind of tip did you get from Reed?"

Before I go further let me state that I also find out that his group was compted their round of golf plus what ever they wanted from beverage cart

Betsy tells us in her sweet voice "he did not give me a tip but he did let me take a pic with him"


We were floored by this, I mean really this guy makes millions a year and wont throw the girl a 20-50-100 whatever

so now to what I did

We get to the clubhouse after round and still talking about it everybody egged me on to send him a twitter message

Soooo I proceed to do so and I said some kinda mean things


My Head Pro Damon calls me today to confirm our poker game this Saturday (he is close friend of mine) and he says "by the way you got me into some crap with Reed he is threatening to not hold his charity tourny here next year"

So this guy goes crying to Damon showing him my tweet
Damon's response to him was "I cant control what one of my members does"

Damon is cool with me he actually thought it was funny and agrees the guy is a ******


Reed responded to me via twitter calling me a loser and asked me if Betsy told me he let her take a pic with him (I guess he feels a pic is a great tip)



I guess Im not really looking for opinions because to be honest I could care less..LOL

I would have but he was not there when we got done. He played 2 hrs in front of me and these people don't come into the clubhouse and hang out

Why would you call someone out on tipping behavior? It isn't that he groped the girl. Tipping is not a law. If he chooses not to tip, that's his business.

You may end up with egg on your face in the end - they will remember who triggered the charity event cancel - nobody will care why this heckling started and who is "right" or "wrong". No matter what the club manager says, I guarantee you he is not happy ...

IMHO the rule is to stay out of other people's biz unless there is something illegal taking place. Then just notify the authorities. Otherwise chances are you will end up with a bashed in face, keyed car, or a burning pile of **** on your front doorstep. ;) Sound familiar?

I have one fireable offense that I'm dead serious about, never discuss your compensation with others, ever.

If the d-bag complained to the club Pro whose to say he did not/will not escalate up the food chain.

How would you feel if she got fired for discussing the generosity or lack thereof of an individual that may represent significant revenue for the club?

He should have tipped.

Betsy should have kept the fact that he didn't tip to herself.

Agree with aigel. You may be right, from a social more perspective. The guy could have been a better tipper. But that's between the cart girl and him. None of your business.

Of course, he's a celebrity, on Twitter, has a public life, etc. So you have the right to call him on his penny pinching. But he's also got the right to not hold the charity tournament at your club ... or anywhere else.

One more thing to reflect upon. So you are a known rich guy - don't you think it gets old that everyone expects you to be generous? How about they like you for who you are and not your $$$ - i.e. getting a picture taken? It sure sounds like the Betsy girl wasn't too concerned about it and enjoyed the snapshot just as much. (Also, why does it matter if Betsy is smoking hot or not - are you supposed to tip for looks?)

So what does the "cart girl" do, exactly? Is everyone supposed to tip her?

I agree with SM that she should not be discussing how much some public figure, (or anyone else), tipped her for her job. That would be a firing offense on most jobs. And she shared it with a guy who has the biggest mouth on earth, you. Twitter to about a zillion people and now here...you're actually trying to litter the internet with this important info.

I'm not even sure she deserved a tip. And yes, you're an asshat.

The service industry has the biggest data base for tippers and their generosity or lack thereof. They will rat out a guy in a heartbeat. Ed Reed should know that if he stiffs the cart girl, that fact will get out eventually. He probably doesn't care.

But that info would most likely stay within the community - caddies, washroom attendants, waiters cart girls etc. That info that the girl gave to you was probably given in confidence so it would have better to not spread it around because now she might hear about it from her superiors.

She probably thought you were pretty cool and was considering sleeping with you until your betrayed her trust by blabbing about the tip. Too bad dude. Pics?

I golf every week. Last week it was 100+ degrees. The cart girl was driving around on the course going to every player and asking us if we're "hydrated" and giving out free water. I'm not rich, but I tip EVERY time the cart girl comes by. This is just a summer job for them and most of them are in school come fall.

Good on you for calling him out. I mean seriously...the guy is a millionaire and he can't give her $1 or even $5 for waiting on him? Who knows, maybe the next time he is faced with a similar situation, he'll tip a kid working a summer job...

I find this odd. To me, one's pay has always been a personal thing. If they choose to keep it to themselves, that's fine. If they care to share, that's fine too.

But firing someone over that?? Either you're

A) a control freak.
B) you don't want the competition to know that you don't pay very well and are afraid that your staff will get poached.

I once worked for a firm where the president nearly encouraged people to share their pay. It worked to his benefit...we always had the competition's best people come to us looking for work. We always had the best and brightest. It worked to his advantage. And he was also proud that his company was among the best paying in the industry.

But fire someone over that? Wow....

Worry about yourself and whether or not you are being a good person. Everything else is just fluff.


As far as the "tweet" goes: if you have to ask youve already answered the question.

IMO he shoulda tipped big!
