He should do well, seeing as how Yankee Stadium has the dimensions of a little league park...

Damn! I tuned into the M's just to see his 'at-bats'. I 've hated the Yankees since I can't remember when. I hope he does well as he was something else to watch as he went to work. I guess that is the 'way things go'. It brings back memories of 'Junior's' departure for greener fields (pardon the bad pun). Cheers JB

I wish him the best, but am glad to see him go. I hope there's some truth to the rumor that the Japanese owner wants out. We have plenty of deep pockets around here that would gladly buy him out.

Dang. I had hoped he would have the same class as Edgar Martinez who wore a Mariner uniform his entire career and terrorized pitchers across the land. My two favorite teams: The Seattle Mariners and whoever is playing the Yankees.

He was the old man on a very young team. He tired of the losing ways and his clock is ticking. He is going to be a free agent at the end of the year. The Mariners got 2 pitching prospects(I don't know why) and had to pay the Wankees some of his salary for this year. Junior did not go to greener pastures. He went home to Cincy and gave up about $40 million dollars in salary to do so. PayRod will always be booed at Safeco and Ichiro will always be cheered. I wish him the best, he is a class act.

Personally, I just don't -get- this whole "team" construct. I mean, these players are bought and sold --like Beenie babies-- yet the logo & color of the uniform makes people either cheer or boo. --whacky. Especially annoying are the fans who are Oh so happy because "We won" ...We? ...which becomes "they" if a loss is involved. --whacky.

Stoopid levels of money............and this is PER YEAR people! http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/salaries/top50 20-30 MILLION per year? that's 2 million a month $500,000 a week $72,000 dollars a day? whether you're playing a game OR NOT like in the off season??? I remember years ago Ken Griffey Jr was pulled over for speeding driving from Seattle to Arizona for spring training, the cop say he had something like $30,000 cash in the glove box when pulling out his insurance and registration papers..........he told the cop that was just his pocket money for the drive down..... Stoopid Money levels. You baseball lovers enjoy your $8 hotdog and $10 beer for me at the next game...

A co-worker of mine lives two doors away from Ichiro and sees him drive his P-car to home games.

The "team" concept is an essential element of the human condition. Men are competitive, both directly and by proxy. When you watch a contest, whether it's a boxing match or two dogs fighting over a scrap of meat it's our nature to pick a favorite and feel satisfaction or disappointment with the outcome. Humans have had about 200,000 years to develop these responses. Those that lack them are either more highly evolved, or lack alpha male instincts. Not sure which.
